Die Sächsische Bläserphilharmonie ist Deutschlands einziges ziviles professionelles Blasorchester. Für diese Einspielung hat es sich doppelbödige Musik mit viel Witz und Tiefe vorgenommen, darunter den schillernden Marsch ("Sinfonische Metamorphosen über Themen von Carl Maria von Weber") von Paul Hindemith und Heitor Villa-Lobos' Aria (Cantilena) aus den Bachianas Brasileiras Nr. 5 in einer Bearbeitung für Cello und Saxofon-Quartett. Herzstück ist aber das Konzert für Cello und Blasorchester von Friedrich Gulda, das dieser für den Cellisten Heinrich Schiff komponierte. Der Solocellist (hier: Peter Bruns), assistiert von Rockband und Blasorchester, spielt sich durch heißen Funk-Rock und höfischen Tanz, durch schlichten Ländler und strengen Kontrapunkt, durch kitschiges Alpenglühen und derbes Bierzelt-Aroma, eine unübertroffene Mischung, die einfach nur Spaß macht. Thomas Clamor als Dirigent hält die Fäden fest in der Hand - einfach mitreißend
