Francesca Woodman by Francesca Woodman( Book )

6 editions published in 1998 in English and held by 350 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In the thirty years since her death, FrancescaWoodmans work has retained an undeniable immediacy and continues to inspire a cult-like following of admirers.Woodman began photographing at the age of thirteen. By the time she enrolled at the Rhode Island School of Design in 1975, she was already an accomplished photographer with a remarkably mature and focused approach to her work. At the age of twenty-two, she committed suicide. Woodman might be merely a tragic footnote in the history of photography were it not for the startlingly compelling, complex and artistically resolved body of work she produced during her short career. Her oeuvre represents a remarkably rich and singular exploration of the human body in space and of the genre of self-portraiture in particular. Her practice assimilated and advanced aspects of feminist theory, Conceptualist practice, and performance art. Thus, a close re-examination of the maturation and reception of Woodmans artistic vision presents an important and timely opportunity to reassess the heady artistic moment during which she came of age. This catalogue, produced by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in conjunction with the first major American exhibition of the artists work in more than two decades, promises to be a landmark reconsideration of Woodman for the twenty-first century. It will paint a fuller picture of her oeuvre than has previously been available, spanning her earliest student experiments to her late, large-scale blueprint studies of caryatid-like figures for the massive Temple Project, and her experiments with fashion photography. The exhibition will bring to light many photographs that have never before been exhibited or published, and the book will focus on these and other vintage prints that theWoodman estate is making available for this exhibition and publication. These rare prints will allow audiences to appreciateWoodmans skill as a printer, and to grasp the importance of the final print to her artistic vision. Through all of these means, Francesca Woodman will examine why her photographs continue to be so profoundly affective many decades after their making

Born in the streets : graffiti( Book )

7 editions published in 2009 in English and held by 196 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"A survey of the artists who contributed to the origins and spread of the graffiti movement worldwide, published to accompany an exhibition at the Fondation Cartier in Paris. Beginning in July 2009, the Fondation Cartier will be hosting an exhibition that celebrates street art. The show and the accompanying catalogue first reexamine the birth and evolution of the graffiti movement in New York in the early 1970s, and feature documentation from that time, including press clips and photographs of tags and graffiti by artists such as Lee, Seen, and Lady Pink, among others. The book then explores the explosion of creativity worldwide that followed the New York movement, especially in Paris, which became the nerve center for European graffiti in the 1980s. It juxtaposes the different aesthetics of cities like New York, Paris, London, Berlin, and São Paulo, highlighting styles specific to each city and the diverse practices of contemporary artists who began in the graffiti movement. There are interviews with artists who influenced the development of street art and with others, such as gallery owners, who were involved in its evolution."--Publisher description

Yue Minjun : l'ombre du fou rire by Minjun Yue( Book )

2 editions published in 2012 in French and held by 166 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Born in 1962 in the city of Daqing in Heilongjiang Province in China, Yue Minjun is an icon of contemporary Chinese painting. Considered one of the protagonists of “Cynical Realism,” an art movement that emerged after the student demonstrations in Tiananmen Square in 1989, he began developing his own distinctive iconography in the 1990s, which combines pictorial and historial references. Yue Minjun’s paintings are immediately recognizable: they are painted in bright colors on large canvases and peopled almost exclusively by laughing male figures, all which are self-portraits either presented as a single figure or replicated over and over again to form a battalion of grinning frozen-faced clones. These figures appear in grotesque poses or in mock execution scenes, creating an atmosphere of tension that oscillates between the lighthearted and the outrageous, the mundane and the excessive, offering an often implicit parody of contemporary Chinese society."--Publisher description

4 editions published in 2012 in French and held by 31 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
