"Charged with overeseeing Israel's war on terror, both Palestinian and Jewish, the head of the Shin Bet, Israel's Secret Service, is present at the crossroads for every decision made. This documentary features interviews with six former heads of the agency who have agreed to share their insights and reflect publicly on their actions and decisions. The Gatekeepers offers and exclusive account of the sum of their successes and failures. It validates the reasons that each man individually and the six as a group came to reconsider their hard-line positions and advocate a conciliatory approach based on a two-state solution"--Container

The poetics of the unnarratable: Testimonial disarticulations in the poetry of Uri Zvi Greenberg, Dan Pagis, and Yehuda Amichai by Yaakov Perry( )

1 edition published in 2010 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

I explore the determining relations among the canonical status awarded to these poets' oeuvres, their engagement with foundational, overwhelming events, and the turning points that these poetic responses mark in the course of literary history. My reading examines the poetic imagination's struggle to preserve a conceivable trace of the dead whose annihilative loss both mandates recognition and preempts the articulable terms through which such recognition could be considered. I focus on the disoriented terms of bereavement in Greenberg's Streets of the River in the face of an annihilation whose traces have been annihilated, and in relation to the disrupted modes of inheritance through which the memory of the haunting dead could be appropriated. I contemplate the poetic possibilities of testifying to the trauma of the Holocaust without recourse to biographical sites of memory or the constructed tale of a survivor who outlives the event that s/he witnesses. With reference to Pagis' first three poetic collections, I explore disoriented paths of address that could not frame recoverable sites of memory or historical accounts, salvage transmissible messages, or determinatively orient testimony's destination. Through the reading of Amichai's poetic utterance, I explore the unsettled relations between a requisite evoked plurality and the authorized singularity of the testimonial address. Amichai's fractured possibilities of address bear witness to testimonial burdens that confront the witness without a conjured, interceding interlocutor or a relationship of reciprocity and correspondence
