A notebook dedicated to the memory of Oliver Wendall Holmes, Sr. composed by distinguished vistors to the Old Corner Bookstore. Reportedly, after Holmes's death, this notebook was place near "his" chair in the Old Corner Bookstore for visitors to pay tribute to the deceased poet. The bulk of the entries date from 1894 to 1900, and most consist of only a few lines, often including quotes from Holmes's verse. Inscribers include many New England luminaries from the fields of letters, politics, education, and religion, such as George E. Ellis, Charles Eliot Norton, John Fiske, Charles Carleton Coffin, Louise Chandler Moulton, Gertrude Hall, Charles W. Hall, Thomas Bailey Aldrich, William Rounseville Alger, Alice Brown, Bliss Carman, Oliver Herford, Curtis Guild, Sarah Orne Jewett, Sarah Holland Adams, John Townsend Trowbridge, Nathan Haskell Dole, Grace Le Baron, Henry Cabot Lodge, Samuel Adams Drake, Edward Everett Hale Jr., Herbert Dickinson Ward, William Copley Winslow, Orison Swett Marden, Alice Morse Earle, Joseph E.
