When asked one day if he had not been tempted to change his style, Jean d'Ormesson replied that he was rather pleased to have been able to remain identical to itself. "That is why, he explained, you will find, for wink and as a trade mark in each of my books a passage from a previous book." The reader will discover these gentle reminders in the four and whose works gathered here - this is the first under such a collection - the unit is obvious: the main concern of the author and his characters, the common feature of all these stories that give life (story of a youth, history of an empire, a family history, history of endless wanderings of the Wandering Jew), it is time. The time that lasts the passing of time, the person against whom one sometimes wins more or less ephemeral victories: "There is one thing under the sun that puts an end, for a time, the perpetual flow :. is love "literature Came for reasons (according to him)" questionable ", Jean d'Ormesson has built a work on the" mixture of historical time and individual time, "heir of Chateaubriand (" Each age is a river that takes us ... ") but also, perhaps, Borges:" The general belief has decided that the river for hours - time - flowed into the future. Imagine the opposite direction is no less reasonable and in any case more poetic. "Established in connection with the author, preface by Marc Fumaroli, this volume offers further through Degout Bernard, records tracing the" career "of works on its contents, and many now inaccessible documents such as the wonderful article by which Jacques Le Goff saluted in 1971 The Glory of the Empire, "pioneering work" marking the birth of the "history-fiction."--Amazon.com
L'amante et l'amie : lettres inédites : 1804-1828 by François-René de Chateaubriand( Book )

5 editions published between 2016 and 2017 in French and held by 65 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Chateaubriand has always known how to exploit his feminine attachments, which is confirmed by the unpublished correspondence of this volume adjacent to the Correspondance générale. With Delphine de Custine, Madame de Stael's friend, Chateaubriand lives a stormy and passionate affair; the letters of the lover exalt desire and sensuality. With Claire de Duras, an aristocratic friendship is formed. Woman of the world, as wife of the Duke of Duras, first gentleman of Louis XVIII, she is also a woman of letters, author of three novels-news ( Ourika , Edouard and Olivier). Madame de Duras holds a salon under the Restoration and will never stop supporting the literary and political ambitions of Chateaubriand, for whom she is a sister to sublimated incest.--Gallimard

Chateaubriand par Girodet : un modello inédit by Bernard Degout( Book )

3 editions published in 2015 in French and held by 25 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
