Transitions and borders between animals, humans, and machines, 1600-1800 by Tobias Cheung( )

14 editions published in 2010 in English and held by 1,421 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The search for a new foundation of the order of things, that characterizes the period between Descartes and Kant, is closely related to three questions: What is an animal? What is a human? What is a machine? The various answers that have been given to the questions occur in a field of dynamic interactions between theories of knowledge and of matter, experiments, observations, moral, theological and scientific claims, analogies, metaphors, imitations, and specific objects or artifacts. The main objective of this book is to retrace these interactions within different disciplinary, methodological and conceptual perspectives that reach from soul-body debates to models of organic molecules, fibre bodies and self-regulating clocks
Organismen, Agenten zwischen Innen- und Außenwelten 1780-1860 by Tobias Cheung( )

13 editions published in 2014 in German and English and held by 609 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Res vivens : Agentenmodelle organischer Ordnung 1600-1800 by Tobias Cheung( Book )

4 editions published in 2008 in German and held by 54 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Snow country ; and, Thousand cranes : the Nobel Prize edition of two novels by Yasunari Kawabata( Book )

5 editions published between 2004 and 2011 in German and held by 39 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book presents English translations of two short novels by the 1968 recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature. Snow Mountain is a nuanced love story involving a discouraged urbanite (Shimamura) and a rural geisha (Komako). Shimamura is tired of the bustling city. He takes the train through the snow to the mountains of the west coast of Japan, to meet with a geisha he believes he loves. Beautiful and innocent, Komako is tightly bound by the rules of a rural geisha, and lives a life of servitude and seclusion that is alien to Shimamura, and their love offers no freedom to either of them. Thousand Cranes is another love story. This melancholy tale uses the classical tea ceremony as a background for the story of a young man's relationships to two women, his father's former mistress and her daughter

With Metropol Parasol, J. MAYER H. Architects have created a new landmark for the city of Seville. The design by the renowned architectural office received first prize in the competition for the redevelopment of the Plaza de la Encarnación at the center of the medieval district of the capital of Andalusia. Metropol Parasol has the potential to turn the Plaza into a new, contemporary urban center in a quarter that was long neglected. The building complex, with its large, parasol-like structures, contains a museum featuring archeological finds in the basement; an indoor market on the ground floor; an elevated square for events, bars, restaurants; and a panoramic walkway on the roof of the parasol. The multifunctional Metropol Parasol signals an initial step in the dynamic development of cultural and commercial facilities at the heart of Seville
