Guidelines for pH measurement in conservation by Season Tse( )

1 edition published in 2007 in English and held by 33 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The pH of an artifact is an important consideration when selecting suitable conservation treatments, storage conditions, and accompanying exhibition materials. Determining pH is therefore a common procedure in the assessment and documentation of museum objects. pH measurement is generally simple and straightforward. However, the constraints imposed by artifacts can complicate the process and produce ambiguous, difficult to interpret, or erroneous results. This Technical Bulletin discusses the principles behind reliable and reproducible pH measurements, points out common pitfalls, and suggests ways to determine the pH of many materials found in museum objects. Descriptions of general measurement procedures are included, along with a comparison of various methods and measuring devices
Water quality for treatment of paper and textiles by Season Tse( )

1 edition published in 2001 in English and held by 33 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The installation of water purification systems in conservation treatment laboratories has become standard practice in recent years. Choosing a suitable system within a given budget requires knowledge of the way the systems work, the factors that influence the quality of water, and the water quality requirements for treatment. This bulletin provides basic information about water purification methods, and guidelines for water quality requirements for treatment of paper and textile artifacts

1 edition published in 2007 in French and held by 29 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Evaluation of commercial mass deacidification processes : AKZO-DEZ, WEI T'O and FMC-MG3 by Helen Diana Burgess( Book )

4 editions published in 1994 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Documents the results of the first phase of a project that evaluated three commercial mass-deacidification processes: diethyl zinc, MG-3 or Lithco, and Wei T'o technologies. The first phase tested these processes in deacidifying four naturally-aged papers of various dates (1728 to 1948). The relative permanence of papers treated by the three processes was evaluated by comparing data obtained before and after ageing. Data collected include the quantity and distribution of buffer reserve, as determined by scanning electron microscopy, atomic absorption, and titration; carbonyl content and degree of polymerization of cellulose; and physical condition (zero span tensile strength and colour), as well as the identification of problems specific to each treatment process

Evaluation of commercial mass deacidification processes, AKZO-DEZ, Wei T'o and FMC-MG3, phase III : evaluation of media, bindings and special paper types : report by Season Tse( Book )

2 editions published in 1994 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Documents the results of the third phase of a project that evaluated three commercial mass-deacidification processes: diethyl zinc, MG-3 or Lithco, and Wei T'o technologies. The third phase tested the effect of these processes on various materials found in archives and libraries, including artist inks and crayon, water-colours, pressure sensitive tapes, photocopies, photographic paper, bookbinding cloths and adhesives, book jackets, stamp pad inks, architectural plans, coloured papers, works of art on paper, dry transfer media, postage stamps, foils, and basketry. The results reported are based on visual evaluation of the treated materials. Advantages and drawbacks specific to each treatment process are discussed along with factors to be considered when choosing a suitable mass deacidification system
