Natalia Goncharova : between Russian tradition and European modernism by
Natalii︠a︡ Sergeevna Goncharova(
Book
)
5 editions published in 2009 in English and held by 158 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Russian avant-garde artist Natalia Goncharova (1881-1962) left behind an extensive and complex body of work. Inspired by the folklore and art of her country, in her early years she produced colorful, strongly ornamental paintings. Her religious paintings, which were influenced by icons, were highly controversial. She began working with Cubism during herMoscow period, providing the Russian avant-garde with an important impetus for linking tradition with modernity. Reading her letters and notes, one becomes aware of this non-conformist's often biting, ironic tone. In 1917, Goncharova settled permanently in Paris, where she designed costumes and sets for Sergei Diaghilev's Ballets Russes. In exile, however, the artist fell on hard times. This publication illuminates the details of Goncharova's life and work and assigns the oeuvre of this unconventional artist--who to this day has not yet been properly recognized in her own country--the status it deserves."--Publisher's website

Jahrhunderts. Exhibition: Opelvillen, Rüsselsheim (9.11.2011-9.4.2012) ; Museum für Neue Kunst, Freiburg (12.5-16.9.2012)

Ekrem Yalcindag : about color, nature, ornaments, and other things by
Ekrem Yalcindag(
Book
)
4 editions published in 2016 in English and German and held by 36 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Living in Istanbul, Vienna, and Frankfurt am Main, Yalcindag (*1964 in Gölbasi) is one of the most important artists working today. Having spent his childhood in Turkey, he then developed his visual language as a student of Hermann Nitsch and Thomas Bayrle in Frankfurt am Main nearly twenty years ago. His meticulous, impasto technique executed with an extremely fine paint brush demands an enormous amount of time. It results in relief-like paintings constructed from hundreds of layers. That Yalcindag?s application of paint recalls the American Color Field painters should be of no surprise if one keeps in mind his intense engagement with Minimal Art. This publication offers the first analysis of the artist?s original practice and visual language, while also providing an important contribution to the study of the reception of non-European ornamental traditions within contemporary art. Exhibition: Art and Cultural Foundation Opelvillen Rüsselsheim, Germany (7.9.-6.11.2016)

Niki de Saint-Phalle(
Book
)
2 editions published in 2016 in German and English and held by 23 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Very early on, Niki de Saint Phalle (1930-2002) discovered the theatre as a source of inspiration. She wrote her first play when she was only a young student. Artistic work for the stage proved to be an important field of experimentation for the artist. Fascinated by the possibility of the active participation of the audience, she then wrote the stage play ICH, which was presented in Kassel on the occasion of the 1968 documenta exhibition. This publication demonstrates for the first time to what extent de Sant Phalle was fascinated by the theatre and how this affected her visual art oeuvre

Sibylle : Zeitschrift für Mode und Kultur : 1956-1995(
Book
)
2 editions published in 2017 in German and held by 21 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Niki de Saint Phalle und das Theater At Last I Found the Treasure by
Beate Kemfert(
Book
)
1 edition published in 2016 in English and held by 15 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Very early on, Niki de Saint Phalle (1930? 2002) discovered the theater as a source of inspiration. She wrote her first play when she was only a young student. With Lysistrata, presented in the Staatstheater in Kassel in 1966, an intensive cooperation began with the director Rainer von Diez, for whose production Niki de Saint Phalle designed the costumes and scenery. Artistic work for the stage proved to be an important field of experimentation for the artist. Fascinated by the possibility of the active participation of the audience, Niki de Saint Phalle then wrote the stage play ICH, which was presented in Kassel on the occasion of the 1968 documenta exhibition. 0The role played by theater in her art after 1968 has remained largely unrecognized. This publication demonstrates for the first time to what extent Niki de Sant Phalle was fascinated by the theater and how this affected her work. Through this new point of view it will be possible to analyse the screen prints developed from the stage play ICH in a new way. The unique perspective on her works sheds new light on her oeuvre in general and especially on the large series revolving around the theme of love. 00Exhibition: Theater Opelvillen, Rüsselsheim, Germany (07.12.2016-12.03.2017)
