Paris - New York - Shanghai : a book about the past, present, and (possibly) future capital of the world by Hans Eijkelboom( Book )

5 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 232 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In "Paris, New York, Shanghai" Eijkelboom creates a clever and witty comparative study of three major contemporary metropolises, each selected for having been (or promising to be) the cultural capital of its time. Paris during the 19th century; New York, the 20th; and Shanghai, the 21st. Expansive cityscapes detailing the quirks of each city, and snapshot-style pictures of their inhabitants soon reveal how similar one city is to another today

Francesca Woodman : On Being An Angel by Francesca Woodman( Book )

3 editions published in 2015 in English and held by 148 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The American photographer Francesca Woodman (1958-1981) created a body of fascinating photographic works in a few intense years before her premature death. Her oeuvre has been shown in number of major exhibitions in recent years, and her photographs have inspired artists all over the world. 0Woodman's photographs explore gender, representation, sexuality and body. Her production includes several self-portraits, using herself and her friends as models. The figures are often placed behind furniture and other interior elements; occasionally, the images are blurred in such a way that their identity is hidden from the viewer. The intimate nature of the subject matter is enhanced by the small formats. Woodman worked in unusual settings such as derelict buildings, using mirrors and glass to evoke surrealist and occasionally claustrophobic moods.00Exhibition: Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Sweden (05.09.-06.12.2015)
I am you : selected works, 1942-1978 by Gordon Parks( Book )

1 edition published in 2016 in English and held by 133 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Injustice, violence, the rise of the American civil rights movement, high fashion and the arts-Gordon Parks captured half a century of the vast changes to the American cultural landscape in his multi-faceted career. I AM YOU: Selected Works, 1942-1978 reveals the breadth of his work as the first African American photographer for Vogue and Life magazines as well as a filmmaker, and as a writer. Reportage for major magazines dominated Parks' work from 1948 to 1972. He chronicled black America's struggle for equality, exposing the harsh realities of life in Harlem, institutionalized racism, and shocking poverty. Parks was equally accomplished as a portraitist, capturing figures such as Malcolm X and Martin Luther King alongside entertainers including Duke Ellington and Ingrid Bergman. He turned his attention to film in the 1960s with social documentaries as well as the now cult classic Shaft (1971). This book traces the threads of Parks' achievements, examining his multi-layered oeuvre through the interaction between his photographic and filmic visions

Yonder : Marnix Goossens by Marnix Goossens( Book )

3 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 42 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Dutch photographer Marnix Goossens spent seven years documenting surrogate nature in somewhat run-down interiors, a recurrent theme reflecting our underlying yearning for the freedom inspired by exotic destinations and wide-open spaces. In place of the real thing, Goossens pictures palm-print wallpaper, false wood grain adhesive, flowery motifs and faded posters of snow-capped mountains. Otherwise mundane and overlooked details and decorative elements are appreciated anew and in unexpected ways through a profusion of detail, colour nuances, and careful lighting. The book is published on the occasion of a solo exhibition by Goossens at Foam, Amsterdam. Exhibition: Foam, Amsterdam, The Netherlands (19.07.-06.10.2013)
Regine Petersen : find a fallen star by Regine Petersen( Book )

1 edition published in 2015 in English and held by 37 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Regine Petersen uses the stories of meteorite falls as a background for her multifaceted narratives; a rock crashing through the roof of an Alabama home in the 1950s and hitting a woman, a group of children recovering a meteorite in their village in post-war Germany, and a more recent event in India involving two Rajasthani nomads. Petersen visited the places and the eyewitnesses and delved into their stories, expanding her photographic observations with found documents and interviews. -- publisher's statement

Tí by Koos Breukel( Book )

1 edition published in 2013 in Dutch and held by 20 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
