Rodney Graham : through the forest by Rodney Graham( Book )

12 editions published in 2010 in English and German and held by 201 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This volume was designed in collaboration with Rodney Graham and Yves Gevaert in conjunction with an exhibition of around one hundred pieces produced by the Canadian artist between 1978 and 2009. Graham (*1949 in Vancouver) uses a variety of media in these works, including books, video, sculptures, machines, paintings, photographs, installations, prints, and music; takes up key concepts of art history; and plays with problems of perception. His works require viewers to come up with art-historical or theoretical associations. Graham derives his source material from Sigmund Freud, Edgar Allan Poe, Georg Buchner, Jeff Wall, and many others, while at the same time dealing with them in a respectful, yet ironic manner. One extensive group of works is based on the artist's own unconventional library, and offers annotations, appendices, bookmarks, reading compendiums, as well as display furniture making stylistic reference to Donald Judd. This catalogue also features Graham's paintings, which explore the myths surrounding classic modern painters such as Picasso and other masters."--Publisher's website

Sculpture by Georges Duby( Book )

2 editions published between 1996 and 1999 in English and held by 159 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Volume 2 covers the most important stages in sculpture from the Renaissance to the present day. As the transition from the Middle Ages to the early Modern age, the Renaissance marks a turning point in art against the backdrop of a new way of viewing humanity. The new Humanist ideals are most convincingly expressed in the work of such distinguished sculptors as Donatello and Michelangelo. Baroque sculture, with Bernini usually regarded as its leading exponent, represents a new freedom of artistic expression. The monumentality and pathos of the Baroque yielded in the Rococo period to sculpture that is at once appealing and elegant. European monarchs vied with one another in attempts at outdoing the grandeur of Versailles. From the 15th to the 18th centuries, sculpture was primarily part of the overall artistic synthesis of palaces, parks, gardens, and churches, but with the French Revolution, it made its ways into the cities to serve the purposes of urban architecture. In the 20th century the conception of art was redefined with unprecedented implications and repercussions. Styles ranged from Expressionism through Futurism to Constructivism and Surrealism, as exemplified by Picasso and Matisse, Brancusi and Giacometti. The 1950s saw works by Alexander Calder and henry Moore shaping pulic spaces, while the close of the century was dominated by artists like Joseph Beuys and Jeff Koons. Today, a generation of young artists is sparking off a dizzying array of new developments. (Publisher) present day. Boris Mikhailov : salt lake by Boris Michailov( Book )

2 editions published in 2002 in English and held by 92 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In the southern Ukrainian town where Boris Mikhailov's father was born, a factory spills untreated water directly out into the open sea. Believing these waters to have healing powers, the local people enjoy swimming in it. All year round, families gather on the shore; on-lookers might be reminded of a Russian Baden-Baden. Mikhailov shot the filmic, black and white sequence of Salt Lake in 1986, capturing a Russian bohemia of uncanny, eery proportions and muted light. Scene upon strangely timeless scene sees rough, stocky men and thick, bikini-clad women, their hair tied up in scarves, all bathing naturally on a sea shore crowded with smokestacks, brick warehouses, and industrial-size pipes that lead right out into the water, like a dock. The book itself was designed by the artist using Russian paper and binding materials, and is printed in a limited edition

Konstantin Grcic : Abbildungen = Figures by Konstantin Grcic( Book )

3 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 75 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In devising a concept for the Abbildungen exhibition, Konstantin Grcic thought back to one of his earliest designs, an additional pedestal for a sculpture by Constantin Brancusi. This became the leitmotif of his staging of twenty-one selected objects. The exhibition is the underpinning for the conception of this publication, which turns its gaze on the media-framing of Grcic's design objects. First researched in early magazines, company prospectuses, flyers and other print media, the selected pieces are presented here as reproductions of reproductions. The publication is accompanied by an in-depth analysis by Robin Schuldenfrei, Professor at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London, who, in presenting Konstantin Grcic's oeuvre to the German-speaking world, examines it from a historical perspective for the first time. Finally, the staged gallery spaces at Kunsthalle Bielefeld are documented in photographs by Wolfgang Gunzel, Offenbach. Exhibition: Kunsthalle Bielefeld, Germany (19.03.-03.07.2016)
