Colonel Charles Goodnight was once a scout for the U.S. Army during the Indian Wars in Texas, and in 1876, he and his friend John Adair came to Palo Duro Canyon and founded the J.A. Ranch, the first true cattle ranch in the Texas Panhandle. This set of black and white films was shot entirely on the J.A Ranch and Palo Duro Canyon by Charles Goodnight and reflects upon ranch life there in 1916. Vignettes about Goodnight's life are included, especially those related to his relationship to the Native Americans
