In this lecture filmed at the Institute for Contemporary Arts in London (Feb. 14, 1972), Karlheinz Stockhausen describes the compositional process and structure of his work, Mikrophonic I. He describes how he developed a vocabulary of tam-tam sounds and methods to transform these sounds electronically. After an explanation of the new musical notation used for this piece, he analyses the structure in detail. Contains excerpts of a rehearsal filmed at the Börsensaal, Cologne (June 4, 1972), with Harald Bojé, Peter Eötvös, Aloys Kontarsky, Joachim Krist, Tim souster, and Karlheinz Stockhausen
