19 editions published in 2012 in German and English and held by 204 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Albert Steiner : the photographic work by Albert Steiner( Book )

7 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 119 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Albert Steiner (1877-1965) was one of the outstanding Swiss photographers of the 20th century. His impressive scenic photographs have fundamentally shaped our perception of Switzerland as an alpine country of timeless beauty. Like Ansel Adams, he translated his artistic vision of mountains, their flora and imposing natural phenomena, onto a black-and-white surface to reveal nature in all its majesty. Steiner's photographic work spans the period from before World War I, with its pictorially inspired images that look like oil paintings, to the straightforward and elegantly modern photography of the 1930s. Unlike other Swiss photographers of his generation, Steiner considered himself to be an artist. In contrast to many of his contemporaries, he saw photography as a completely appropriate means of creating works of art

Unfamiliar familiarities : outside views on Switzerland by Alinka Echeverria( Book )

14 editions published in 2017 in 3 languages and held by 79 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Switzerland's image has been significantly shaped by photographs dedicated to tourism. With spectacular mountain panoramas, rural idylls or portraits of local people the country could be successfully marketed, and these photographs also made an important contribution towards national identity. Another consequence, however, was that the respective pictorial repertoire became inflated and stereotyped. Switzerland Tourism has chosen an unusual project to mark its 100th anniversary in 2017 with the aim of exploiting the potential of photography anew. The Swiss Foundation for Photography (Winterthur) and the Musée de l'Elysée (Lausanne) invited five internationally renowned photographers to scrutinise Switzerland in their capacity as independent, subjective and sensitive observers' unrestricted by any advertising commission. What Alinka Echeverría (Mexiko/UK), Shane Lavalette (USA), Eva Leitolf (Germany), Simon Roberts (UK) and Zhang Xiao (China) discovered on their travels around the country or along its borders is both inspiring and revealing. Their exciting, poetic or mysterious-enigmatic images invite viewers to see the familiar with the eyes of an outsider. Balthasar Burkhard by Balthasar Burkhard( Book )

3 editions published in 2018 in English and held by 64 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book presents the many facets of photographer Balthasar Burkhard (1944-2010), showing his self-invention as an artist and tracing the trajectory of the medium of photography in the later half of the twentieth century. Burkhard's work combines a sensitive understanding of the body as sculpture and the photographic image as a canvas, making him one of the pioneers in translating photography as a monumental tableau into contemporary art. This comprehensive book coalesces Burkhard's early role as a chronicler of the contemporary art of his time, especially as the main photographer for Swiss curator Harald Szeemann, his conceptual redefinition of photography together with other artists, and finally his emancipation as a photo artist. It accompanies a major retrospective organized by Museum Folkwang in Essen, Fotomuseum Winterthur and Fotostiftung Schweiz, the Museo d'arte della Svizzerra italiana in Lugano and the Balthasar Burkhard Estate in Bern. Roberto Donetta Fotograf und Samenhändler aus dem Bleniotal by Roberto Donetta( Book )

3 editions published in 2016 in German and held by 45 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

0Exhibition: Fotostiftung Schweiz, Winterthur, Switzerland (28.05-04.09.2016)
