... these editions [1599] of the Geneva-Tomson were published at different times at Amsterdam and Dort, and adopted afterwords by Barker, who affixed the date 1599, probably because this was a well-known and popular edition (Pocock)
An apologie for sundrie proceedings by iurisdiction ecclesiasticall : of late times by some chalenged, and also diuersly by them impugned : by which apologie (in their seuerall due places) all the reasons and allegations set downe as well in a treatise, as in certaine notes (that goe from hand to hand) both against proceedings ex officio, and against oaths ministred to parties in causes criminall, are also examined and answered : vpon that occasion lately reuiewed, and much enlarged aboue the first priuate proiect, and now published, being diuided into three partes, the first part whereof chieflie sheweth what matters be incident to ecclesiasticall conisance, and so allowed by statutes and common law : the second treateth (for the most part) of the two wayes of proceeding in causes criminal, viz. by way of accusation, & ex officio iudicis : the third concerneth oaths in generall, but more specially the lawfulnesse of such as be ministred touching supposed offenses, either of themselues that sweare, or of their brethren : respectiuelie submitted to the graue iudgements of the reuerend iudges and other sages of the common lawe, of iudicious professors of the ciuill lawe, and of the right reuerend prelates and other grounded diuines in this realme : whereunto (for the learneds sake and for similitude of argument and iudgement) I haue presumed to adioine that right excellent and sound determination (concerning oaths) which was made by M. "2 colums, last black-letter quarto edn. to be printed by Barker. Woodcut borders to both titles. 1615. Bound with Common prayer, title (which is so often missing) within woodcut border, Calendar in red and black. 1614. Speed's woodcut Genealogies and double-page map. R.F. Herrey's Two right profitable and fruitfull concordances. 1615. Sternhold and Hopkin's Psalmes (2pp. soiled) 1616. 5 items in 1 vol., thick 4t0, contemporary calf, worn and amateurly repaired, lacks clasps. Although somewhat worn, this volume is in unsophiticated and not unattractive state. D & M give two editions black-letter 1615, with two tests by which to differentiate them. This Bible has one from each. As the binding is undisturbed I don't think it has been made up with a title from a different copy. It seems probable to me that the variant readings were bound up as they happened to come from the press. This is therefore D.M. 264/5"--Bookseller's description (laid in)
