Hon har helt enkelt blivit tvungen att "låna" lite av godsets dyrbarheter, ja rentav blivit tvungen att sälja av lite för att klara sig och särskilt sin äldsta dotters slösaktiga leverne. Och så en dag får fru Sneijder ett brev från Charles-Henri de Grévy, från gubben själv, ägaren, som säger att han är på väg hem. Gösta Gustaf-Jansons yttrande en gång om sitt författarskap kan tas som en programförklaring: "Jag vill att en bok skall underhålla. Den skall vara spännande utan att bli konstruktion och den skall helst vara rolig också, men allra helst skall man få veta något om människor och om sig själv."Detta är en målsättning som stämmer väl på Gubben kommer. Boken kom ut 1934 och blev Gösta Gustaf-Jansons genombrott som författare. [Elib]
