Letters from lawyer Joseph Bartlett to Harvard student William Jenks. Bartlett was Jenks's mentor and paid some of his expenses while he was in school. Bartlett expresses his friendship for Jenks and concern for his health and offers financial help, advice, and encouragement. The collection also includes one letter (1812) from Jenks to Rev. Nathan Parker asking him to forward money to Bartlett and enclosing an account of expenses. In his last two letters (1813, 1823), Bartlett asks Jenks for financial help in return and describes his "absolute distress," sickness, and poverty
