Timeless, limitless images--monumental 14 x 20 inch platinum photographs -- of one of the world's most mystical places by a renowned artist. More than any other photographer, Izu has made over thirty visits to the sacred Cambodian site of Angkor Wat. And, like the makers of the sacred image of Buddha, who utter three prayers for each stroke of the carving tool, Izu himself considers the act of picture-making a type of divine practice. His photographs capture essence and light. Of his famous photograph of Tibet's Kailash in which the snowy peak is seen in otherworldly light, he recently said the image was a gift from God. The photos are accompanied by the poetry of Helen Ibbitson Jessup, inspired by Izu's work. --Channel Photographics

Eternal light by Kenro Izu( Book )

2 editions published in 2017 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Kenro Izu's "Eternal light" radiates spirituality. In Varanasi, known as the Indian City of Light, Izu photographed festivals, rituals, cremations as well as individual experiences of joy and suffering related to death and the afterlife. In Allahabad, where the Ganges and Yamuna Rivers meet, Izu attended the festival of Kumbh Mela, and in the city of Vrindavan, he photographed among the thousands of temples dedicated to Krishna. Highly attuned to the emotions of his subjects, Izu is exquisitely rendered photographs transcend earthly concerns. He has stated: It is as though the Hindu gods have suggested that I think about the question, where are people heading, in this life and after. Through these photographs Izu strives to find the answers. Co-published with the Howard Greenberg Library, New York Exhibition: Kiyasato Museum of Photographic Arts, Yamanashi, Japan (July 2016)

1 edition published in 2019 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"...the Pompeii authority permitted Izu to photograph the original human casts in the archive building as 'portraits' of the people of ancient Pompeii. For the work of Requiem, Kenro Izu created an imaginary scene of sometime after 'the day', when lives were extinguished by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, but among the scattered dead, plants have started to grow once again."--Publisher's website

Sacred places by Kenro Izu( Book )

3 editions published in 2001 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

During the 1980s, Kenro Izu began making photographs of difficult-to-reach places. Invariably, for want of a better description, these were places that were possessed of "spirituality." Izu made "documents" of places of worship as diverse as Easter Island, Teotihuacan, Angkor Wat, Stonehenge, the monuments of the Chinese Silk Road, Palmyra, Mustang, Hampi, the caves of Ajanta, Borobudur, Pagan, and Lhasa. The work was painstakingly slow. Since creating those first images in the 1980s, Izu has continued his travels, making numerous journeys to these out-of-the-way places. Sacred Places, which follows the success of Still Life, Izu's first book with Arena Editions, represents the first major compilation of these magnificent travel images-images that truly defy simple description. His is a vision that has literally been hacked and honed until the photographs are totally minimalist documents, to which nothing can be added and from which absolutely nothing can be subtracted. It is a vision totally outside of the ordinary photographic parameters of our time
