This book aims to give state of the art in several domains of cultural heritage in which Nanosciences allow fundamental breakthrough. The first part of the book concerns nanostructured materials in ancient artifacts. Understanding their nature and formation processes bring new insight in the apprehension of technical level of ancient societies but can also inspire the design of new materials. The second part is dedicated to the understanding of materials. This crucial issue in material science today, for cultural heritage, needs to perform specific characterization techniques and technologies, but also to create tailored analytical strategies. Part three presents new methods, processes and materials at nano levels that can bring innovative solutions to conservation and restoration issues, linked with the understanding of the alteration processes involved at different scales

The results described in this work are the first experimental data about diatomic doubly charged cations formed by double photoionization. Experiments were realized using the synchrotron radiation from ACO as a photon source ln the energy range 35-140 eV. The first part is devoted to the study of the simpliest molecular case, hydrogen and deuterium. Double photoionization cross section was measured using the photoion-photoion coïncidence method (PIPICO) in the photon energy range from appearance potential at 50 eV up to 140 eV. From the comparison between these results and the recent ab-initio calculations of Le Rouzo, it was establish that the double photoionisatlon is well understood by a modal ln which electron-electron correlations are clearly described in the initial state of the neutral molecule while ln the final state, the two electrons are not correlated. The second part presents a search for different electronic state of doubly charged cations produced by double photoionisation of nitrogen. lt was demonstrated, by using PIPICO method, that most of electronic states of N₂⁺⁺ can be formed by photoionisation. Six dissociative states were observed and we have demonstrated that all of them are correlated with the first dissociation limit N⁺(3p) + N⁺(3p) where N⁺ fragments are in their fundamental state. The third part reports a search about stable states of molecular doubly charged cations which can emit. A new photoion-photon of fluorescence (PIFCO) method was used. Two different emissions ln NO₂⁺ were discovered. The determination of the appearance potential of emitting states allowed to attribute these emissions to the transitions from the two first stable electronic states to the ground state of the doubly charged cation. These results were compared to the latest calculations of the potential curve of NO₂⁺

Ce travail comporte deux parties : La spectrométrie photoélectronique nous a d'abord permis d'étudier l'ionisation simple en couche de valence interne et externe de N₂. Les limites d'un modèle à électrons indépendants et l'importance des interactions électroniques ont été soulignées. Une analyse détaillée des structures apparaissant pour une énergie de photons de 23 eV a montré les comportements e 2 types d'états autoionisants. Les résonances de forme des états de symétrie ∑g⁺ ont été comparées. Nous avons ensuite réalisé un nouveau dispositif expérimental pour l'étude de la double photoionisation. Le cas de la molécule CS₂ a été ainsi examiné par spectrométrie de masse associée à une technique de coïncidence ion-ion. La spectroscopie de l'ion CS₂⁺⁺ a ainsi pu être esquissée. Deux types de dissociations ont été observés, leurs mécanismes sont discutés
