10 editions published between 2015 and 2016 in English and held by 246 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"How does mind fit into nature? Philosophy has long been concerned with this question. No contemporary philosopher has done more to clarify it than Jaegwon Kim, a distinguished analytic philosopher specializing in metaphysics and philosophy of mind. With new contributions from an outstanding lineup of eminent scholars, this volume focuses on issues raised in Kim's work. The chapters cluster around two themes: first, exclusion, supervenience, and reduction, with attention to the causal exclusion argument for which Kim is widely celebrated, and, second, phenomenal consciousness and qualia, with attention to the prospects for a functionalist account of the mental. This volume is sure to become a major focus of attention and research in the disciplines of metaphysics and philosophy of mind"--
Bad words : philosophical perspectives on slurs by David Sosa( )

7 editions published in 2018 in English and held by 196 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

What makes a word bad? On the one hand, slurs and other derogatory language appear to be meaningful - different slurs can seem to refer to different groups, for example. On the other hand, slurs can seem to be just an arbitrary tool for insulting or enabling harm. How is the meaning of a slur related to its practical uses?

Annotation
Belief, personal, and propositional knowledge by Luis Villoro( Book )

1 edition published in 1998 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Villoro offers a systematic analysis of the fundamental epistemic concepts: belief, personal knowledge, propositional knowledge, and certainty. He analyses their relationships, on the one hand, with reasons that justify the truth of our beliefs, and on the other with motivations (desires, wants, interests) that can distort them. Some of the questions the author addresses are: when can we say that our knowledge is grounded on objective reasons? How are those reasons affected by our desires and interests? Knowledge and beliefs are analyzed as they are held by concrete men and women, determined by their personal motivations, and conditioned by social circumstances. Thus conceived, they cannot be understood without their relationships to will and to human practices. The book concludes with the study of the relationships of beliefs and knowledge with precepts that regulate practical life in society. Rational conditions of belief thus appear as conditions for the realization of a free and rational life."--BOOK JACKET
