At first, the guests arrive only to find out that the invitation is for the next day. When he is not busy creating comic diversions, Bunuel highlights the absurd. While three guests are waiting for their tea, which never arrives, a glum leutenant joins them to recount a gruesome tale from his childhood. It is revealed that the charming ambassador of "Republic of Miranda" is also a drug trafficker, and when he is not busy shooting at a terrorist's puppet toys, he is busy seducing his partner's wife. The film alternates between reality, dreams, and dreams within dreams as the characters unwittingly expose the emptiness that resides behind a facade of bourgeoisie propriety
