Each character in turn expounds his attitude toward life, then they see if there is any social purpose in their lives and whether they are prepared to fulfill it. Before facing death, each character has one more chance to mend his ways. Only those who have lived their lives in accordance with the theme set in the prologue, that is, who have found some social purpose, will be invited to the manager's supper (the Holy Communion) in the epilogue

"Rainbow Quest" is a series of black and white television programs produced in the mid 1960's when folk music was at its zenith in public awareness and attention. Pete Seeger is featured playing and singing contemporary folk songs of the day from many different musical cultures. "A Salute to Leadbelly", a part of one of the programs, is Seeger's tribute to the legendary Southern guitar player, Huddie Ledbetter. Pete recalls some famous stories about "Leadbelly" and plays some of his songs. The program includes rare film footage of "Leadbelly" singing "Pick a bale o'cotton" and "Gray goose."
