Joseph Beuys : parallel processes by Joseph Beuys( Book )

20 editions published in 2010 in 3 languages and held by 278 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Twenty-four years after his death, the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen is paying homage to the artist, educator and political activist Joseph Beuys (1921-1986) in Düsseldorf, the city with which he is primarily associated. Often the object of intense debate and much hostility during his lifetime, today Beuys ranks among the 20th century's most important and most innovative figures of the artistic avant-garde and is often mentioned in the same breath as Marcel Duchamp and Andy Warhol. This companion book shares the exhibition's goal of displaying "the complete Beuys" by presenting selected works from all phases and artistic media of his multifaceted œuvre
Piktogramme - die Einsamkeit der Zeichen : [Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, 4. November 2006-25. Februar 2007] by Marion Ackermann( Book )

12 editions published in 2006 in German and English and held by 193 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Rebecca Horn : moon mirror : site-specific installations, 1982-2005 by Doris von Drathen( Book )

10 editions published in 2005 in English and German and held by 193 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This publication focuses on an aspect of Rebecca Horn's extraordinarily diverse oeuvre that plays an important role in the formal constitution of her large sculptures and installations - the relationship between the work of art and its architectural setting. The book presents a selection ranging from works of the 1980s to sculptures and installations realized in 2005. In the early Measure Box (1970) and Rooms meet in mirrors (1974/75a) the human body is the measure of spatial perception. In the installation entitled Concert in Reverse (1987), the artist works in a building with a dubious political background - the "Zwinger," where countless people were tortured during the Nazi regime - exploring its history and creating a place of remembrance. In Moon Mirror (2003), a work installed in Pollenca, the artist creates a column of air between a fountain constructed with mirrors and an eddy of light beneath the dome of the convent church. At the point at which the Orient and the Occident meet, the moon is captured as a "vehicle of human vision and expressions." The viewer descends into the depths of the fountain and transcends his own horizon in order to survey the heavens anew. -- Dustjacket

Kandinsky, Malewitsch, Mondrian : Der weisse Abgrund Unendlichkeit = The infinite white abyss by Marion Ackermann( Book )

12 editions published in 2014 in 3 languages and held by 168 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Leuchtende Bauten : Architektur der Nacht = Luminous buildings : architecture of the night by Marion Ackermann( Book )

14 editions published in 2006 in 3 languages and held by 148 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In recent years "light architecture" has returned as an important component of contemporary architectural design. More and more architects work with lighting designers in order to develop concepts for the nocturnal appearance of their buildings. It is little known that, despite numerous recent technical developments, the vocabulary of today's lighting designers has a long history. The large world fairs of the nineteenth century were the first testing ground for architectural illumination." "This publication juxtaposes historic buildings and architectural visions with recent designs, as well as with contemporary paintings and photographs that reacted to the changing nocturnal skyline. Essays address different aspects of this aspect of architectural history."--Jacket
The problem of god by Isabelle Malz( Book )

5 editions published in 2015 in German and English and held by 133 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Beteiligte Künstlerinnen und Künstler Georges Adéagbo, Eija-Liisa Ahtila, Francis Alÿs, Francis Bacon, Michaël Borremans, Pavel Büchler, Andrea Büttner, Flavio de Carvalho, Paul Chan, Berlinde De Bruyckere, Tacita Dean, Andrew Esiebo, Harun Farocki, Katharina Fritsch, Douglas Gordon, Gary Hill, Emma Kay, Hubert Kiecol, Katarzyna Kozyra, Little Warsaw, Thomas Locher, Kris Martin, Aernout Mik, Boris Mikhailov, Santu Mofokeng, Hermann Nitsch, Robert Rauschenberg, Ad Reinhardt, Rosemberg Sandoval, James Turrell, Bill Viola, Paloma Varga Weisz, Danh Võ und Aby Warburg

Christian Jankowski : Dienstbesprechung = Briefing by Christian Jankowski( Book )

10 editions published in 2008 in German and English and held by 126 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Christian Jankowski (1968 in Gottingen) became known to a wider audience with Telemistica, his humorous contribution to the 1999 Venice Biennale in which he asked fortunetellers on Italian television to predict his success at the exhibition. Whether hula-hooping in a museum, teleshopping at an art fair, or participating in a TV cooking show in a gallery, Jankowski lodges himself with sly humor in popular entertainment programs and the art business to subtly question the role of art and medial entertainment in our society." "This volume provides the first representative cross-section of Jankowski s oeuvre. His best-known pieces, such as the film he produced in Hollywood entitled 16mm Mystery or The Day We Met, which was shot in a karaoke bar, are presented in addition to his most recent, previously unpublished works, including the video Kunstmarkt TV, made at the 2008 Art Cologne, and his video installation Briefing, created especially for the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart."--BOOK JACKET

Agnes Martin by Agnes Martin( Book )

12 editions published in 2015 in English and German and held by 84 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Canadian-born Agnes Martin was one of the pre-eminent painters of the second half of the 20th century, whose work has had a significant influence both on artists of her own time and for subsequent generations. A contemporary of the abstract expressionists though often identified with minimalism, Martin was of the few woman artists who came to prominence in the predominately masculine art world of the late 1950s and 1960s, and became a particularly important role model for younger women and artists. This survey provides and overview of Martin's career, from lesser-known early experimental works through her striped and grided grey paintings and use of colour in various formats, to a group of her final works that reintroduce bold forms. A selection of drawings and watercolours is also included
