Flogging a dead horse : the life and works of Jake & Dinos Chapman by Jake Chapman( Book )

9 editions published in 2011 in English and held by 206 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The definitive monograph, collecting twenty years of work by two iconoclastic and subversive contemporary British artists. Jake and Dinos Chapman's work has come to define the spirit and impact of a generation of contemporary artists we know as the YBAs. Taking many forms across many mediums, from major installations to miniature sculpture, from etchings and drawings to films and performances, their work together and individually examines contemporary politics and morality with characteristic irreverence and profoundly caustic humor. Edited by the artists themselves, Flogging a Dead Horse is the most definitive monograph on the brothers' work to date. With more than 300 reproductions of every major piece recorded in their career, the book captures the extraordinary detail of their celebrated dioramas, collects a vast archive of etchings, drawings, and watercolors, and draws on photographs of larger installations and exhibitions to present a comprehensive survey of twenty years of work-and to illuminate the monumental effort behind their projects. Designed by the Chapmans' longtime collaborators Fuel, and with original cover and slipcase art made for the project by Dinos Chapman, this book will stand as a collectible object in its own right."--Publisher's website

The end of fun by Jake and Dinos Chapman( Book )

3 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 74 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Introduced with an exclusive essay by Will Self placing the eponymous sculpture 'End of Fun' in both the context of the Chapman's oeuvre and historical interpretations of Hell, this book is a detailed examination of the work. Completed in 2012, it is the latest incarnation of the brothers' famous 'Hell' (1999), which was consumed in the MOMART fire of 2004. Following on in both layout and format from the book 'Fucking Hell' (2008), 'End of Fun' consists of close-up photographs detailing the atrocities committed by the subjects of the work: thousands of miniature Nazis and skeletons, who seem to be engaged in an eternal battle across nine separate vitrines, arranged in the shape of a reverse swastika. Each dreadful scene is played out against a series of equally apocalyptic backdrops: a derelict factory; a concentration camp; a shattered church; an erupting volcano

The authors re-imagine the Victorian morality tale. While their immorality tales are wrought from the innocent language of the children's colouring book, the messages they sagely pass on to our younger folk are far from the saccharine-coated yarns familiar to the genre
