Contemporary : Art Gallery of New South Wales contemporary collection by Art Gallery of New South Wales( Book )

4 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 119 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This book, one of a series on the gallery's collections, has two broad objectives: firstly to introduce the contemporary collection and the ideas that have provided direction for its evolution; and secondly to address and discuss with brevity and clarity the individual works of art. Most of all I hope this book will, through selectivity and context, aid understanding and appreciation of the art of our times and lend credence to the extraordinary and divergent imaginations which foster them."--Foreword

John Russell : Australia's French impressionist by John Peter Russell( Book )

3 editions published in 2018 in English and held by 84 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Working in Europe at the end of the 19th century, John Russell (1858-1930) was part of the French avant-garde and the only Australian painter to have been closely associated with some of the most original and influential artists in France. He was a close friend of Van Gogh and Rodin, dined with Monet and taught impressionist colour theory to Matisse. Yet, despite the efforts of fellow Australian artist Thea Proctor, his cousin, he remains little known. This major survey presents the breadth of Russell's art from his studies in London and Paris, through impressionism and experimentation with pure colour, to his later fauve-like luminous watercolours

Mikala Dwyer : a shape of thought by Mikala Dwyer( Book )

2 editions published in 2018 in English and held by 27 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Mikala Dwyer creates objects and installations that are both playful and provocative, re-imagining familiar materials and what they say to us about the world in which we live. Her highly engaging sculptures explore ideas about shelter, childhood play, modernist design and the relationship between people and objects. Often beguiling in their colour and profusion, her works incorporate raw materials and found objects in inventive and unexpected ways that transform their architectural settings. For A shape of thought Dwyer co-opts both the everyday and the fabulous to transform four of our contemporary galleries - floating 150 silver balloons high above the gallery floor, installing an elaborate suspension of fabric shapes held aloft by stockings, and building a large circular sculptural gathering that includes crystal-like Perspex structures
