Minutes by Greater New York Industrial Union Council ( )
in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The combined sets of CIO minutes show the history of the New York City labor movement over 20 important years. They show how industrial organizing flourished during the war years, how labor contributed to the homefront war effort, and how unions responded to post-war industrial reconversion, a fluctuating economy, and a conservative political climate. The transition from left-wing to anti-communist trade unionism is clearly recorded in the minutes of the late 1940's and early 1950's. Throughout the collection, labor's militancy is evident in organizing, bargaining and community action campaigns. The distinguished contributions of many local affiliates as well as of individuals in the trade union movement are also well documented in these minutes
