Who gets to call it art? : the legend of Henry Geldzahler, 1935-1994 by Peter Rosen( Visual )

2 editions published between 2005 and 2006 in English and held by 346 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Henry Geldzahler (1935-94), star curator and cultural impresario, lived a life worth examining. The first curator of the Department of 20th-Century Art at the Metropolitan Museum, first director of visual arts for the National Endowment of the Arts, and the first full-time commissioner of cultural affairs for New York City, his landmark 1969 show at the Metropolitan is still remembered with awe. "New York Painting and Sculpture: 1940-1970" filled 35 galleries with more than 400 groundbreaking works of contemporary art. This film is not a full biographical examination of this singular figure's life, but rather a portrait in profile, as many of 'his' artists talk about Geldzahler and what his friendship meant to them

2 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This selection of twenty-two letters written by the renowned art dealer Richard Bellamy (19271998) highlights his great sensitivity to the needs of the artists he represented, his special brand of humor and his literary predilections. The letters cover the year 1965, when he closed the Green Gallerya showcase for many who would become the most important artists of the second half of the 20th centuryto the last weeks of his life in 1998. Included are letters to art collectors and patrons such as Virginia Wright, Vera List and A. Alfred Taubman, and letters concerning the artists Mark di Suvero, Walter De Maria and Yayoi Kusama, among others. There are also four letters written to his son, Miles Bellamy, which draw a kind of narrative of their relationship. Miles Bellamys introduction and notes expound on that relationship and describe the contexts in which all the letters were written. Appended to the main text are Richard Bellamys essay on the painter Myron Stout, the only previously published writing by the dealer, as well as documentation of a posthumous reading of Bellamys letters at The New School in October 1998
