Set in medieval times, two Spanish men sneak past guards and through tunnels into a Moorish castle, in search of legendary jewels hidden there. Immediately inside, they encounter a priest and a woman - dressed like a man - who is skilled in sword-fighting. After a brief confrontation, the four decide their interests coincide and join forces in their quest. The priest is close to the Moorish princess who lives in the castle, and he uses his status to help them locate a secret passageway in her bedroom. But while the Spaniards are sneaking through her quarters, she awakens; they are captured, but not before the princess finds herself sympathizing with the intruders

Several fights break out between the men of the town over the issue, and Hugo is made to look overzealous. The couple finally resorts to meeting covertly at night; yet the possibility of their ever uniting grows slim as hostilities continue

Aware of the threat to his engagement, Marta's fiancé, Pablo, arranges for all mail between the two to be intercepted by the maid. Both think they have been forgotten by the other, and although Arturo travels to the city to find her, they are unable to resolve the situation, and Arturo begins to drink heavily

Unbeknownst to Enriqueta, Arturo uses his boss' daughter to gain influence with him. When the politician has health problems, he retreats to the village where Enriqueta lives and the two women meet. As Enriqueta is engaged against her will to another man, Arturo decides that they should both leave together. Enriqueta agrees, and soon learns that Arturo isn't quite as noble as she'd hoped
