Traces : Ana Mendieta by Ana Mendieta( Book )

4 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 394 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"During her short career, Ana Mendieta (1948-85) created a body of work that was provocative and radically inventive. Using her own body, together with elemental materials - blood, fire, earth and water - she created visceral 'tableaus' and ephemeral 'earth-body' sculptures exploring life, death, rebirth and spiritual transformation. Born in Cuba, but sent to the US as a child, much of her art expresses the pain and rupture of cultural displacement and exile. In Mendieta's work the outline of her body is consumed by gunpowder, fireworks, or advancing waves, and ancient goddess-forms are shaped from sand, carved into rock, or incised into clay or onto leaves. The media are exceptionally diverse, but the images are consistently compelling, mysterious and poetic. Encompassing a wealth of drawings, photography and film, Ana Mendieta: Traces provides a comprehensive and illuminating overview of this highly influential artist's work. Essays by art historians, Julia Bryan-Wilson and Adrian Heathfield, as well as Stephanie Rosenthal, Chief Curator at Hayward Gallery, provide an array of new approaches to Mendieta's practice. This publication also includes a wide-ranging and highly illustrated anthology of never-before-seen material, including Mendieta's own notebooks, exhibition plans and correspondence, the result of unparalleled access to the Ana Mendieta Archive. Filled with new imagery, ephemera and scholarship, Ana Mendieta: Traces provides a comprehensive introduction to this major twentieth-century artist, as essential for Mendieta experts as for those coming to her work for the first time."--Publisher's description

Paul McCarthy : lala land, parody paradise : Haus der Kunst, München by Paul McCarthy( Book )

14 editions published in 2005 in 4 languages and held by 210 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Walking in My Mind explores the inner working of the artist's imagination through dramatic, large-scale installation art." "Ten international artists - Charles Avery, Thomas Hirschhorn, Yayoi Kusama, Bo Christian Larsson, Mark Manders, Yoshitomo Nara, Jason Rhoades, Pipilotti Rist, Chiharu Shiota and Keith Tyson -- transform the Hayward Gallery's indoor galleries and outdoor sculpture terraces into a series of gigantic sculptural environments, each of which represents an individual mindscape. Interior worlds of emotions, thoughts, memories and dreams collide with exterior reality, blurring the boundaries between inner and outer space."--Jacket
Dayanita Singh : go away closer by Dayanita Singh( Book )

4 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 133 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Originally trained as a photojournalist and bookmaker, Dayanita Singh (born 1961) has exhibited widely both in India and abroad. Her work often takes a curious view of the everyday, and is characterized by an unsparing view of her subject matter. Best known for her portraits of India's urban middle and upper classes, her images of people working, celebrating or resting depict everyday life without embellishment, capturing insights that often challenge exotic stereotypes in the West. Published alongside an exhibition at Hayward Gallery, Dayanita Singh: Go Away Closer, marks a turning point in the career of this artist. For the first time in print, this publication presents a detailed overview of Singh's Museums--wooden structures that introduce a radical new way of experiencing Singh's work and photography in general. The book includes images from throughout Singh's career, a new essay from Geoff Dyer and an in-depth interview with Singh by Hayward Chief Curator, Stephanie Rosenthal"--Amazon.com, viewed April 21, 2014

The future is already here : it's just not evenly distributed by Biennale of Sydney( Book )

8 editions published in 2016 in English and No Linguistic content and held by 104 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The future is already here — it’s just not evenly distributed, the title of the 20th Biennale of Sydney exhibition and of the accompanying catalogue, is inspired by a comment by leading science-fiction author William Gibson, and also serves as a framework for this investigation. The first part of the title speaks to the fact that the exhibition is about the now; but more than that, it suggests that perhaps we have already surpassed our own ideas about the future. The second part reminds us that access to information, the internet and other more basic resources is by no means universal; many people are denied the opportunity to benefit from (or participate in) these new spaces where information can be exchanged. These conditions of uneven distribution are not inevitable, however; they are largely the result of historical and current geopolitics and economic power structures. One consequence of this uneven distribution is social upheaval on a scale unprecedented in recent world history; as we have seen with the influx of political refugees, not just into Australia, but internationally and notably in Europe."--Publisher description

Ana Mendieta - Traces [anlässlich der Ausstellung "Ana Mendieta. Traces", Hayward Gallery, London, 24. September - 15. Dezember 2013, Museum der Moderne Salzburg, 29. März - 6. Juli 2014] by Ana Mendieta( Book )

9 editions published in 2014 in German and English and held by 57 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
