The shape of color : Joan Miró's painted sculpture by Laura Coyle( Book )

12 editions published in 2002 in English and held by 289 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Colorful, provocative, and full of humor, the late painted sculptures by Joan Miro from a little-known group of medium- and large-scale works. Published to coincide with the opening of a major exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington D.C., this is the first ever in-depth study of his exuberant, brilliantly painted sculpture." "Widely recognized for his major contribution to Modern and Surrealist art, Miro is best known for his painting. Exploring new ground, The Shape of Color features Miro's painted sculpture alongside rarely exhibited or published studies and sketchbook pages, maquettes, and documentary photographs. Leading scholars offer fresh interpretations of Miro's sculpture, its historical and cultural context, and its critical reception."--Jacket
Joan of Arc : her image in France and America by Nora M Heimann( Book )

5 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 198 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Joan of Arc celebrates the cultural legacy of a medieval French heroine who led the armies of her nation to victory against the English, who was tried on charges of heresy, and who was burned at the stake in Rouen in 1431. Two decades after her death, her trial was reopened and the court reversed the verdict. But it was not until the pinnacle of her popularity, nearly 500 years later, that the Catholic Church canonized her. This highly illustrated book is the first to explore the history of Joan s image both in France and the United States. For several centuries representations of Joan have reflected the historical contexts in which they were created, and have been used to promote a huge variety of political, cultural and religious views."--Jacket
Antiquities to Impressionism : the William A. Clark collection, Corcoran Gallery of Art by Laura Coyle( Book )

7 editions published in 2001 in English and held by 160 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This book was published to coincide with an exhibition celebrating the 75th anniversary of William A. Clark's bequest of more than 800 objects from his private collection to the Corcoran Gallery of Art. Having earned his fortune in the copper industry, Clark amassed his art collection in retirement. One essay is devoted to Clark the collector, featuring archival photographs of the collection in his residence. A second essay delves into Clark's relationship with the Corcoran. Entries on the works are divided into chronological sections and feature paintings and sculptures by Jan van Goyen, Thomas Gainsborough, Jean-Siméon Chardin, Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot, Eugène Delacroix, Auguste Rodin, and Edgar Degas alongside rare Greek terracottas, antique lace, Indo-European rugs, Italian Renaissance maiolica, and the Salon Doré, an 18th-century gilded French room that was installed at the Corcoran." -- From the National Gallery of Art website

Developing Elementary Students' Geographic Knowledge and Application Skills Through Curriculum Integration by Laura Coyle( Book )

1 edition published in 1996 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This paper reports on an action research project focusing on curricular interventions for improving geographic knowledge and application skills in elementary students. The targeted population consists of third- and fourth-grade students in a middle-class community in southwest suburban Chicago. The deficiency of geographic literacy was documented through teacher-made tests, observations, and surveys. Analysis of probable cause data revealed that geographic skills were often taught in an isolated manner that lacked relevance for the students. The discipline of geography was not given adequate instructional time during the average school day. Geography was often taught with an emphasis on rote memorization skills and did not address the varied learning styles and intelligences of students. A review of solution strategies suggested by knowledgeable others, combined with an analysis of the problem setting, resulted in the selection of two major categories of intervention: integrating geography throughout the curriculum with an emphasis on literature; and the construction of lessons around the various learning styles and intelligences of students.
