Concerning the best state of a commonwealth, and the new island of Utopia : a truly golden little book : no less beneficial than entertaining by Thomas More( Book )

1 edition published in 2016 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Utopia 2016: A year of imagination and possibility presents four seasons of activity celebrating the 500th anniversary of More's Utopia. Published in Leuven in December 1516, More's Utopia offers an imaginative and playful vision of the world as it could be at a time of great change. More's Utopia is deliberately ambigious: both 'no place' and 'good place'. He is also clear that many other visions for a better society are possible. In the book, More described the language of the island Utopia and proposed an alphabet associating each Latin letter with its Utopian equivalent. 500 years later, this edtion offers a transliteration of the English text into a new Utopian alphabet for the first time. Love and friendship by Jane Austen( Book )

1 edition published in 2012 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

When a noble youth arrives unannounced to request the hand of the matchless Laura, it seems their future is one of contentment and bliss -- that is until his family learn of the marriage and, one by one, they reject the new bride. So begins the series of unspeakable events that Laura must confront and overcome, by way of the occasional fainting fit and bout of delirium. Tragedy and comedy here go hand in hand as a very foolish young heroine is placed at the centre of Jane Austen's early satire on drawing-room society. Written as a series of letters, 'Love and Friendship' is a delicious romp through the highs and lows of a young girl's lot in life and a precursor of Austen's later works of genius
The road to En-Dor; being an account of how two prisoners of war at Yozgad in Turkey won their way to freedom by Elias Henry Jones( )

1 edition published in 2014 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Captured during the First World War, Lieutenant E.H. Jones (a Welsh officer in the Indian Army) and Lieutenant C.W. Hill (an Australian serving in the R.A.F.) were prisoners of war at the Yozgad prison camp in Turkey. To while away the time, the prisoners hit upon the idea of playing with a make-shift Ouija board to help keep themselves entertained. As it turned out, E.H. Jones had a knack for manipulation and soon had everyone believing his fake messages from the other side. It was then the bright idea came to him: if he could fool his comrades, to what extent could he fool his captors and turn this to his advantage - ? With Lieutenant Hill his partner in crime (who is also an amateur magician), the two orchestrate an extraordinary plan to try to guarantee their release
