Veditz was a Deaf educator at the Maryland School for the Deaf and the Colorado School for the Deaf, and was very active in the National Association for the Deaf and the World Congress of the Deaf. He was a strong and at times controversial advocate for the rights of the Deaf, and a proponent of sign language. In addition to teaching and writing, he was an expert in horticulture, and in raising poultry and pigeons
