"Sydney, Australia - This tranquil poultry-farm scene, specially created to camouflage one of Australia's airfields in 1942, remains undisturbed. Made by Mrs. Arthur Chauvel and Mrs. Kathleen Stevens, each "fowl" is individual and portable. Attached to a stake, each figure is moved at regular intervals, so that the aerial view is not static. Modelled in hessian over wire mesh skeletons in a variety of feeding attitudes, the "chooks" were stiffened by a processing which is Mrs. Chauvel's own invention. They became leghorns with a coat of white paint and a slash of crimson for their combs"--pasted label on reverse
