Aspekte der Populärkultur Amerikas und Porträts verschiedener sozialer Milieus tauchen in seinem Werk, das Gemälde, Fotografien, Skulpturen und Installationen umfasst, hauptmotivisch immer wieder auf. Zu seinen populärsten Gemälden zählen die sogenannten Jokes und Cartoons, auf denen Wize in Form von schriftbildern beziehungsweise Zeichnungen mit Acryl im Siebdruckverfahren auf leinwände übertragen wurden. Auch die Serie der Nurses und der De Kooning Paintings sind heute bereits Klassiker der zeitgenössischen Malerei.
