The majority of this collection consists of bound volumes of briefs produced by Burlingham Underwood, LLP and its predecessors. Also included are various materials related to the history of the firm and to the lives of its partners, particularly Charles Culp Burlingham. These materials include extensive personal and professional correspondence, office memoranda, case files, office directories, letterhead samples, associate lists, floor plans, newspaper and magazine clippings, printed historical accounts of the firm and its founders, memorials for various firm associates and partners, account ledgers, bound volumes, and other miscellaneous items. Of particular interest are materials related to the firm's representation of the White Star Line, owner of the Titanic, after the sinking of the ship in 1912. Also of interest are biographical materials related to Charles Culp Burlingham, including typescripts of correspondence to and from him during his years as a college student at Harvard. The bulk of the correspondence in this collection relates to Scott's activities as law teacher and legal scholar, and to his work as an authority in the fields of trusts and civil procedure. Other material relates to his service as clerk of the Ames Foundation (1920-1966); member of the board of the Harvard Cooperative Society (1940's and 1950's); and miscellaneous writings concerning the history of the Harvard Law School and his courses at the Rutgers U. School of Banking.

Contains the case files of the Boston maritime law firm of Dodge and Dodge which include motions, memoranda, dispositions, correspondence, miscellaneous evidentiary material, broadsides of admiralty sales, and opinions of judges of the Admiralty Court. Cases relate mainly to suits filed to recover for damages caused by collisions of ships at sea or in harbor. Issues of law focus on rules of shipping, especially the Rules of 1864 (Rev. Stats. of the U.S. Sec. 4233, Rule 16) and the 1885 Revised International Rules and Regulations for Preventing Collision at Sea (Article 14).

Contains a variety of materials relating chiefly to his personal, political, and civil rights activities. The collection contains family papers pre-dating Garrison's birth and other personal correspondence with his friends and colleagues. Much of this correspondence provides a unique look into the social and political milieu of New York City in the mid-Twentieth Century. A subseries titled, Major Correspondence, consists of correspondence with noted legal figures. The papers also include materials related to Garrison's work on the issues of global disarmament and non-violence.
