"Since it was first discovered in 1988, the zebra mussel has increased its range dramatically: it now inhabits twenty U.S. states and two Canadian provinces. The nation's Sea Grant programs have taken the lead in assisting water users threatened by this freshwater mussel, and other aquatic invaders, through a strong program of research, education, and awareness activities. This report highlights efforts undertaken by Sea Grant programs in New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina to prepare Mid-Atlantic residents for a potential invasion, as the zebra mussel moves closer and closer to our waters"--National Sea Grant Library publication website

"The University of Delaware Sea Grant Marine Advisory Service conducted a study of Sussex County residents during the fall 2002 and winter 2003. The overall purpose of the study was to assess residents' perceptions and opinions of development, growth, and land-use issues facing the country. Another goal was to begin identifying quality of life factors that affect residents' lifestyles in the county. The chief focus on this report is to discuss similarities and differences between residents living in the ever-growing coastal sections of the county and inland residents, mainly living west of Route 113 ... Data was collected using a mail survey of randomly selected Sussex County residents."--Page iii
