Swiping left on the quantified relationship: exploring the potential soft impacts( )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

John Danaher, Sven Nyholm, and Brian D. Earp's (2018) fascinating articleon potential ethical objections to the use of quantified relationship technologies contends that “there is no blanket objection to or knockdown argument against” their use (17). Although we agree with this conclusion and with their plea for further empirical study of these technologies, we argue that their discussion of the quantified relationship does not adequately consider potential soft impacts of quantified relationship technologies (QRT).
Robot sex and consent: Is consent to sex between a robot and a human conceivable, possible, and desirable?( )

1 edition published in 2017 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The development of highly humanoid sex robots is on the technological horizon. If sex robots are integrated into the legal community as “electronic persons”, the issue of sexual consent arises, which is essential for legally and morally permissible sexual relations between human persons. This paper explores whether it is conceivable, possible, and desirable that humanoid robots should be designed such that they are capable of consenting to sex. We consider reasons for giving both “no” and “yes” answers to these three questions by examining the concept of consent in general, as well as critiques of its adequacy in the domain of sexual ethics; the relationship between consent and free will; and the relationship between consent and consciousness. Additionally we canvass the most influential existing literature on the ethics of sex with robots.

The fate of a crown by L. Frank Baum( Book )

1 edition published in 2012 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The Fate of the Crown was the first novel of Baum's short-lived adult fiction career. Featuring an adventure story, political subtext, melodrama and a mystery plot, the work was a major success in the years after its publishing. Baum penned the novel under the pseudonym Schuyler Staunton not only because of the risk of shattering his successful young adult literature career with a risqué novel, but because the book's plot included historical figures of the period. Set in 1889 during the revolution that ended the Brazilian Empire, the novel mentions Manuel Deodoro da Fonseca, the first president of the Brazilian Republic and Emperor Pedro II, the last ruler of the Brazilian Empire. The novel's protagonist Robert Harcliffe takes a job as a secretary to a large company in Brazil, which he later learns is a front to a dangerous criminal enterprise. After evading death and becoming a member of the Brazilian resistance, Robert falls in love with the Republican leader's servant, Lesba, and works with her to uncover the mystery of some missing treasure that could be the key to the rebellion's success
