Solutions to the equations of the Fock self-consistent field for the ground configuration of doubly ionized nitrogen are presented. The total energy is determined with these solutions in both the single-configuration and the two-configuration approximations. The theoretical results are compared with experimental data. (Author)

The Fock equations are simplified by substituting simpler expressions for the exchange terms using the Fock theory of the classical analog of the operator of electrostatic interaction of exchange type and the virial theorem. Equations simplified in this manner are solved for the ground configuration of beryllium. A semi-empirical substitute is formulated for the exchange terms and also verified using this example. Wave functions, obtained by the methods referred to, are compared to the solutions to the exact Fock equations and also to the corresponding solutions to the Hartree equations. (Author)

Values of the radial integrals are determined with the help of these functions for the possible electric dipole transitions between the indicated levels.
