Petroglyphs in Alaska photograph collection, ca. 1921-1959 ( Visual )
in English and held by 1 library worldwide
The petroglyphs in this collection were discovered along Alaskan beaches near Alitak (Kodiak Island), Admiralty Island, Auke Bay, and other unidentified locations, usually near salmon spawning streams. It is believed that the human figures, animals, birds, fish and "Y" faces were carved by prehistoric inhabitants of Alaska. Some of the photographs were taken by Capt. C.A. Halvorsen, Superintendent of the Alaska Packer's Association (Chignik, Alaska) and Allen Hasselborg.
