Consisting of correspondence, pocket diaries, speeches, notebooks, contracts, minutes, student notes, teaching materials, and miscellaneous printed materials documenting McCaughrin's work teaching the hard of hearing and training teachers of hearing impaired adults and children, as well as her involvement with the American Hearing Society, and American Society for the Hard of Hearing. McCaughrin began to lose her hearing while still a young woman. She recalled that not even a hearing aid would prevent her from becoming "a social outcast," a handicap that inspired her to learn lip-reading and open the McCaughrin School of Speech Reading in Columbia, S.C.

Consists of letters from Clinton A. Hunt to his family in Franklin County, Tennessee. Hunt served in the Tennessee militia during the 2nd Seminole War. Most of the letters are written from Florida and Alabama. Also included is a letter written by Cordell Hull during his service in Cuba as Captain in the 4th Tennessee Regiment, U.S. Army. In the letter, dated Jan. 15, 1899, Hull notifies a Mr. Looney of the death of his son, John.

Regiment reporting on the 2nd Battle of Bull Run, medical care, secessionist women, free and enlisted Blacks, and his lack of faith in North Carolina's military governor Edward Stanley, or his commanding officer John G. Foster; letters from Hunt to his children giving accounts of his activities as assistant surgeon with the 8th Mass. Regiment and intemperance in the Army; and a letter from Lewis Tappan and T.B. Hudson soliciting funds to support John G. Whittier and Henry B. Stanton as anti-slavery agents in Washington, D.C. Among other correspondents are Benjamin Crowninshield, Sally Cheever, and Thomas Cheever.
