The theory of an attitude and position measuring technique using two cameras incorporating linear charge coupled imaging arrays by J Knight( Book )

3 editions published in 1982 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The theory is presented of a technique for measuring the attitude and position of cylindrical objects which is of interest in studying the behaviour of stores ejected from aircraft wing pylons. The sight-line angles of the tangents to the top and bottom edges of the store are measured in two vertical planes using linear CCD array cameras, and equations relating these angles to the required attitude and position are derived in this Report. The measurement of bank angle from the observation of marks painted on the side of the store, is also considered. The errors in position and attitude determination, which arise from uncertainties in the angle measurements and camera geometry, are discussed and simple first order approximations are derived for these. Evolution of a voltage-time model of thermal batteries by J Knight( Book )

4 editions published in 1991 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A temperature time model of thermal batteries has almost been completed and validated against experimental data. This Memorandum first summarises early attempts to integrate a voltage-time model into this, taking advantage of the instantaneous predictions of temperature, thermodynamic potentials, and internal resistance which the thermal model provides. It then describes how recent refinements of the voltage-time model have led to improved simulation of the discharges of a wide range of sizes and types of thermal battery under an equally wide range of test conditions. The semi-empirical approach adopted has been to provide a universally-applicable framework based on logical concepts to cover various effects such as polarisation etc, but with adjustable numerical parameters. It is shown that a moderately good simulation may be obtained for the majority of available discharge curves, using this one set of equations and without altering parameter values. Further improvements can be obtained when parameter values are optimised for one particular type of battery. Comparisons of model simulations against a body of experimental data have pinpointed remaining discrepancies which will guide further refinement efforts

Computable structures and the hyperarithmetical hierarchy by C. J Ash( )

4 editions published in 2000 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book describes a program of research in computable structure theory. The goal is to find definability conditions corresponding to bounds on complexity which persist under isomorphism. The results apply to familiar kinds of structures (groups, fields, vector spaces, linear orderings Boolean algebras, Abelian p-groups, models of arithmetic). There are many interesting results already, but there are also many natural questions still to be answered. The book is self-contained in that it includes necessary background material from recursion theory (ordinal notations, the hyperarithmetical hierarchy) and model theory (infinitary formulas, consistency properties)

Measurement of Heat Propagation in a Laser Produced Plasma( )

1 edition published in 2003 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

We present the observation of a nonlocal heat wave by measuring spatially and temporally resolved electron temperature profiles in a laser produced nitrogen plasma. Absolutely calibrated measurements have been performed by resolving the ion-acoustic wave spectra across the plasma volume with Thomson scattering. We find that the experimental electron temperature profiles disagree with flux-limited models, but are consistent with transport models that account for the nonlocal effects in heat conduction by fast electrons
