Sea cucumber Phase 1 fishery progress report by C. M Hand( Book )

3 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This paper provides a progress report following the implementation of an adaptive management regime in 1997 in the British Columbia sea cucumber fishery. The information being collected in this phase of the fishery includes population abundance estimates from transect surveys, effects from varying exploitation rates in experimental fisheries, recovery from small-scale depletion in removal experiments, and size distribution from biological samples. Methods & results from programs under way are described. Aspects of survey & experimental fishery results are discussed in relation to factors, such as spatial variation in sea cucumber productivity & migration behaviour, that affect the variability & reliability of the data. Recommendations for further research are also provided
Discussion on a precautionary approach for management of the red sea urchin fishery in British Columbia by Alan Campbell( Book )

2 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This paper first reviews the history of the commercial fishery for red sea urchin (Strongylocentrotus franciscanus) in British Columbia, the fishery management measures used, stock assessment & research activities, and red sea urchin habitat & biological characteristics. It then discusses management goals for this fishery and proposes some management strategies such as: reductions in the minimum size limit accompanied by reductions of exploitation rate to ensure sufficient brood stock reproduction; use of large experimental management areas to test the efficacy of the present management system & address issues as they relate to the appropriateness of different exploitation rates, change in size limit, or limit thresholds; and monitoring programs

The relationship between wind generation and balancing-energy market prices in ERCOT : 2007-2009 by E Nicholson( )

1 edition published in 2010 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This paper attempts to measure the average marginal effects of wind generation on the balancing-energy market price in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) with the help of econometric analysis. The econometric approach employed in this paper differs from other studies of the effects of wind on electricity markets because those studies, most of which focused on Europe, used production cost modeling. Rather than simulating market outcomes, this paper uses historical data from the ERCOT balancing market and attempts to quantify the average marginal effects of price on wind generation
Graded-density Reservoirs for Accessing High Pressure Low Temperature Material States( )

1 edition published in 2006 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In recently developed laser-driven shockless compression experiments an ablatively driven shock in a primary target is transformed into a ramp compression wave in a secondary target via unloading followed by stagnation across an intermediate vacuum gap. Current limitations on the achievable peak pressures are limited by the ability of shaping the temporal profile of the ramp compression pulse. We report on new techniques using graded density reservoirs for shaping the loading profile and extending these techniques to high peak pressures
