The correspondence discusses genealogy, A.L. Rives' studies at the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées and his work for the Richmond and Danville Railroad Co., and Amélie Rives Troubetzkoy's 1914 London trip. The financial and legal papers contain a copy of the 1777 will of William Rives of Sussex County and bills from French tradesmen. Genealogical papers trace the Belling, Macmurdo, Page, Starke, Rivers, and Walker families, and biographical material contains information on W.C. Rives, A.L. Rives and Amélie Rives Troubetzkoy. Two childhood journals, 1874 and 1879 of Amélie Rives are present as are her marriage service book, 1896, horoscopes, and clippings regarding her two husbands and her literary career. Of interest is a petition to Napoleon III regarding the arbitration of claims against the American ship General Armstrong.
