Consists of two letters of the Stark family of Tennessee: one is from Lewis and Nancy Stark of Portland, Missouri to William and Fanny Stark of Sumner County, Tennessee, 1851, which discusses the good economic conditions in Missouri; the other is a letter of introduction for Gen. J.D.C. Atkins, written by John Lee Stark of Springfield, Tennessee to Capt. J.W. Rascoe of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, 1888. The latter item includes an appended note by J.D.C. Atkins

Of special interest are the Civil War diaries and documents of Charles Gardiner Hampton who fought at Bull Run, Middleburg, Gettysburg, and was captured and imprisoned in Libby Prison. Emma's papers describe her work in the Woman's Relief Corps of the Civil War. Two boxes include family photographs. Extensive family genealogical materials are included.
