In this paper it is shown that the orbitals of individual configurations of a multiconfiguration approximation are slightly dependent on the terms of a given configuration as well as on the type of coupling. The generalized method of the Fock self-consistent field, which consists of its extension to a multiconfiguration approximation, is contrasted with the generalized Hartree method, in which the linear combination of products of radial orbitals is used as the variation wave function to find the orbitals, while all the other calculations are carried out in accordance with the generalized Fock method. The suggested method for the helium atom yielded practically the same results as the complete generalized Fock method. (Author)

Solutions to the Fock equations are presented in the multiconfiguration approximation for the 4p and 3d radial orbitals as the correction configurations of the two-configuration approximations 4s(2)-4p(2) and 4s(2)-3d(2), in the case of the negative ion of potassium. The energy value of the 4s(2) shell is determined in the three-configuration approximation 4s(2)-4p(2)-3d(2). The value of the electron affinity of the potassium atom is presented in the indicated three-configuration approximation. (Author)
