Separation from professions and para-professions : an analysis of 1981 census data for select professions and para-professions by Charles Thomas( Book )

1 edition published in 1988 in English and held by 25 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This report examines the extent to which people leave the professions and paraprofessions for which they were trained. The report is based on 1981 Census data which allows calculations of separation rates of people leaving their professions for a wide range of occupations. The report shows that, in general, wastage rates from the professions and paraprofessions examined are lower than from the major trades. The report indicates that separation rates among professions and paraprofessions are diverse. At least half the trained nurses, mechanical and agricultural engineers and computer professionals leave their professions, but less than 20 per cent of dentists and doctors do so. The report suggests that family considerations, fluctuations in manufacturing activity, shift work and uncongenial working hours, as well as, to some extent, remuneration have an important influence on people leaving their profession. According to the report, high separation rates can mean the likelihood of a considerable loss of the use of skills developed through education and training. It can also mean an inefficient use of education and training resources. The significant rate at which people leave the occupation for which they were trained appears to be an important factor in contributing to skill shortages

Vienna, March 1991 E. Hlawka J. SchoiBengeier R. Taschner Preface to the German Edition We have set ourselves two aims with the present book on number theory. On the one hand for a reader who has studied elementary number theory, and who has knowledge of analytic geometry, differential and integral calculus, together with the elements of complex variable theory, we wish to introduce basic results from the areas of the geometry of numbers, diophantine ap proximation, prime number theory, and the asymptotic calculation of number theoretic functions. However on the other hand for the student who has al ready studied analytic number theory, we also present results and principles of proof, which until now have barely if at all appeared in text books
