Apparus aux États-Unis à la fin des années 1970, les systèmes multi-agents ont connu un essor important au niveau mondial qui n'a pas encore été démenti. Par certains aspects, cette méthode a modifié notre façon de percevoir la modélisation des interactions entre différentres entités intelligentes qui peuvent être de nature hétérogène. Elle s'intègre parfaitement dans le contexte actuel des recherches sur les nouvelles sciences et technologies de l'information et de la communication (STIC). Dans ce domaine, un système multi-agent est constitué de différentes entités, appelées agents, opérant dans un environnement. La notion d'organisation concerne l'étude des relations interagents et de la dynamique des interactions entre ces derniers. Cet ouvrage insiste sur des éléments de modélisation de cette notion et montre plusieurs applications les illustrant. Les principaux fondements théoriques rencontrés (des aspects de modélisation, des mécanismes de coordination, des modèles de raisonnement sur autrui, etc.) sont présentés pour la modélisation et la conception des organisations multi-agents. A partir de ces fondements, nous présentons une dizaine d'applications à base d'agents. En particulier, des applications liées à la productique, aux transports, au management dans les entreprises et aux nouvelles technologies sont détaillées. (Somabec)

Pour assurer la régulation des réseaux de transport urbain et améliorer la qualité de service, les exploitants utilisent les Systèmes d'Aide à l'Exploitation (SAE). Un SAE permet le suivi en temps réel du fonctionnement d'un réseau. Il manipule une quantité importante d'informations que le régulateur n'arrive pas toujours à prendre en compte pour élaborer ses décisions. Les correspondances non assurées, conséquence directe des perturbations, augmentent alors le mécontement des voyageurs. Pour résoudre le problème de l'amélioration de la qualité des déplacements dans les réseaux de transport urbain, nous nous intéressons à la régulation de trafic aux nœuds des correspondances, régulation non encore prise en compte par les SAE. Nous proposons un Système d'Aide à la Décision (SAD) chargé d'élaborer des actions de régulation pertinentes en fonction de l'état du réseau. Son rôle principal est de surveiller un réseau de transport et de prévenir les perturbations en proposant des actions de régulation. Un modèle multiagent d'un réseau vu par des correspondances est proposé. Ce système est basé sur trois types d'agents : 1) un agent SUPERVISEUR chargé du dialogue avec le régulateur : il présente les actions et reçoit les demandes. 2) Des agents CORRESPONDANCE, un par nœud de correspondances : ils prennent en charge le suivi du fonctionnement du réseau de transport, la détection au plus tôt des perturbations et la proposition d'actions de régulation pour y remédier. Le système permet ainsi le maintien de la stabilité du trafic au niveau des nœuds de correspondances. 3) Des agents ACQUISITION, un par arrêt de régulation : ils sont chargés de la perception. Ils enregistrent les dates des passages des bus ainsi que des informations les concernant : nombres de voyageurs descendant du bus et montant dans le bus

Energy consumption in buildings is affected by various factors including its physical characteristics, the appliances inside, and the outdoor environment, etc. However, inhabitants' behaviour that determines the global energy consumption must not be forgotten. In most of the previous works and simulation tools, human behaviour is modelled as occupancy profiles. In this thesis the focus is more on detailed behaviour representation, particularly the cognitive, reactive, and deliberative mechanisms. The inhabitants' dynamic behaviour is modelled and co-simulated together with the physical aspects of a building and an energy management system. The analysis of different household appliances has revealed that energy consumption patterns are highly associated with inhabitants' behaviours. Data analysis of inhabitants' actions and appliances' consumptions is used to derive a model of inhabitants' behaviour that impacts the energy consumption. This model represents the cognitive mechanisms that provide causes that motivate the actions, including the communication with other inhabitants. An approach based on multi-agent systems is developed along with a methodology for parameter tuning in the proposed behaviour model. These tools are used to co-simulate, not only the physical characteristics of the building, the reactive behaviour that is sensitive to physical data, and deliberative behaviour of the inhabitants, but also the building energy management system. The energy management system allows the direct adjustment of the building parameters or simply giving advice to the inhabitants. The impact of different types of inhabitants' behaviours, with and without the inclusion of an energy management system is analyzed. This work opens new perspectives not only in the building simulation and in the validation of energy management systems but also in the representation of buildings in the smart grid where signals can be sent to end users advising them to modulate their consumption

Les acteurs virtuels autonomes sont des agents évoluant dans des environnements dynamiques et continus. Ils doivent prendre des décisions afin de s'y adapter en temps réel. Il leur faut donc disposer de modèles décisionnels performants. Les modèles décisionnels orientés comportement sont particulièrement adaptés à ces problèmes. Ils sont fondés sur l'hypothèse qu'une décision peut être répartie entre différentes entités (ou comportements). L'une des difficultés de cette approche est de dégager une décision globale à partir des suggestions des comportements. Dans ce cadre, le vote présente de nombreux avantages. Cependant, dans la littérature, il ne permet pas de sélectionner des actions continues et utilise des pondérations qui biaisent la sélection. Notre contribution consiste en une modification de la méthode de coordination par vote. Notre proposition permet de sélectionner les décisions dans un espace continu, d'utiliser des comportements de granularité fine et met en oeuvre une procédure de vote différente. Nous avons appliqué le modèle décisionnel à la navigation réactive autonome en environnement virtuel. Les essais réalisés prouvent l'intérêt du modèle et n'utilisent aucune pondération. Les résultats en environnement statique montrent que le modèle est capable d'atteindre son objectif en respectant des contraintes et en persistant dans ses choix. Les résultats en environnement dynamique décroissent lorsque le nombre d'agents est supérieur à vingt. De par le caractère ouvert du problème traité, ce travail fait l'objet de plusieurs perspectives applicatives (simulation de groupes d'agents) et théoriques (liaison avec un module de niveau d'abstraction supérieur)

Since several years, an increasing interest appears in the research on the distributed constraint satisfaction problem (distributed CSP) in which a problem is defined as a quadruplet: variables, domains, constraints and agents. These works are the fruit of a reflection on the application of multi-agent technique to CSP solving. Every agent of a multi-agent system handles a distributed part of the CSP corresponding to the initial problem. One of the major difficulties of the distributed CSP is over-constrained problem. Indeed, to resolve the conflicts appeared, it is necessary to relax constraints. In our approach, these relaxations are made locally to the agents. The proposed approach aims at taking into account the essential characteristics detected in case of inconsistency (over-constrained). It is based on the proposal of factors allowing to model and to guide effectively the global and local constraints relaxations in case of inconsistency in a distributed CSP, in order to obtain, if necessary, an alternative solution. We specify three factors influencing the control mechanisms of the CSP: the influence factor of variables, the influence factor of constraints and the influence factor on the agent. These factors provide for each agent, necessary information for the detection of the inconsistency and the distributed resolution for the global problem. Finally, we detail the algorithms and validate our approach by a series of classic problems provided with random constraints

This thesis deals with service discovery, selection and composition problems. The aim is to fulfill a complex requester query. To do that, we propose a multi-agent approach based on trust and social networks. We define a trust model as a compositional concept that includes social, expert, recommender and cooperation-based component. The social-based component judges whether or not the provider is worthwhile pursuing before using his services. The expert-based component estimates whether or not the service behaves well and as expected. The recommender-based component checks whether or not an agent is reliable and if we can rely on its recommendations. The cooperation-based component allows agents to decide with whom to interact in a service composition. We propose a distributed algorithm for service discovery using trust between agents and referral systems in social networks. We also develop a new method based on a probabilistic model to infer trust between non adjacent agents while taking into account roles of intermediate agents. Finally, we present an original coalition formation process which is incremental, dynamic and overlapping for service composition in social networks. %In particular, our coalition formation process engaging self-interested agents is incremental, dynamic and overlapping. Experimental results show that our multi-agents approaches are efficient, outperforms existing similar ones and can deliver more trustworthy results at low cost of communications

Two main economic theories were identified among the economic theories which appear after Simon work: organizational ecology and strategic management. They investigate independently the problems of selection (embodying the integration of organizational forms) and adaptation. Recent research orientations focused on unifying the two approaches. However, no research studied merged these two approaches considered so far as independent. This is most likely due to the complexity of economic systems. This thesis defines a complete economic model integrating firms and organisational forms using an approach based on adaptive multi-agent systems. We show that adaptive multi-agent systems are well suited for the adaptation and selection problem and that the adaptation is not simply a feature of agents but also present at the organizational forms level. The first part of the thesis shows the advantages of using adaptive agents in modelling firms while highlighting the problems caused by the use of learning techniques in a multi-agent context. The second part models organizational forms and their interaction with firms. It proves the existence of a loop where each variation in the organizational forms is interpreted by firms which accordingly adapt, and where the adaptation of firms generates variations at the form level

Contributions of this PHD take place on computer science research on complex systems, specifically in efficient andreproducible execution of large multi-agent simulations in a parallel and distributed high performance cluster type of context(HPC) systems. We are particularly interested in the design of models to facilitate their distribution, synchronization ofdistributed components and communication between agents. In this context, we are particularly interested in the designof models to facilitate their distribution, synchronization of distributed components and communication between agents.The first contribution of this thesis is the qualitative and quantitative comparison of the main parallel and distributedmulti-agent platforms targeting large scale simulations in a high performance environment. This work identified limitationsof existing platforms, mainly communication between agents, synchronization and the distribution of the load which isinflexible. To offer more flexibility in the distribution of simulations, we propose a modeling formalism based nested graphsallowing us to decompose and distributed simulations using powerful libraries. We then conducted a study on the impactof synchronization in PDMAS, proposing three different synchronization policies to provide modelers a level of resolutionadapted to the various synchronization problems. Finally, we define a communication schema between all entities thatmake up a simulation regardless of the process on which entities are running.These contributions are combined in a parallel multi-agent platform called FractalPMAS. This platform is a proof of conceptand allowed us to implement our different contributions to observe and compare the behavior of our algorithms. To validatethis work three recognized agents model, the predator-prey model, the Flocking model and contamination model wereused. We performed simulations using up to 512 cores and the results obtained, in terms of performance and scalabilityare promising

The objective of this thesis is the design of federations of agents in a pervasive hybrid service ecosystem. A distributed approach based on a social metaphor of a natural ecosystem is proposed with the aim of building open agent federations, where agents interact with each other to achieve their goals through dynamic composition and adaptation of services. In this approach, each agent governs a wireless mobile device. Each agent within the eco- system is self-interested, and its behaviors are based only on local interaction tasks. The interaction and cooperation among agents are guided by a set of social norms, established by members of the ecosystem. Two approaches based on constraint satisfaction were designed to compare the results of strategies of service adaptation with existing proposals based on the reconfiguration of services from scratch. The first is based on a distributed model of the constraint satisfaction problem. The second is an extension of the distributed model to address the dynamics of open environments. The simulations show the perform- ance of the algorithms regarding the consumption of time and the number of messages required for the composition and adaptation of services

This submission presents the Shine Agent ModelingPlatform (SAMP), a framework trying to integrate the multi-agents paradigm within the development of video games. The purpose is to integrate the efficiency of the MAS within the video games.SAMP provides an approach to enhance the interactions between agents. This approach reduces the number of searches within the environment. In addition to integrate the multi-agents paradigm within the video games, SAMP aims to be userfriendly by proposing a full graphical interface to MAS. An import/export system of these modelsallows users to create two modeling levels: one close to the computer sciences logic and the second close the business logic of the user.SAMP is integrated in a video games engine: Shine Engine. The goal is to provide to agents a generic approach to managing their representation of the world and reason about this representation. Multi-agent systems allow the simulation of complex phenomena which are not easily describable in an analytical way. This approach is often based on the coordination of agents whose actions and interactions involve the emergence of the phenomenon to be simulated. When the aim is to mimic the human behaviour, it is sometimes necessary to use a competitive coordination and to be able to reproduce anticipatory behaviours. This thesis addresses the issue of recognition and anticipation of coordination context. Our work is based on an approach of the anticipation suggested by Rosen: « preventive anticipation » which consists in adapting its actual behaviour to avoid some undesired states. We propose a formalization of this concept based on constraints networks processing. The underlying decisional model uses constraints propagation techniques which allow each agent to gather the effects of an action and thus to detect some undesired states. The proposed algorithm is generic and filters out, before any coordination, all actions leading to one of the non-desired states of the system. Implemented within the framework of a simulation of traffic developed at INRETS and called ARCHISIM, our proposal enable to introduce opportunistic behaviours without any risk of having deadlock in the center of the intersection. The various evaluations validate the emergence of traffic phenomena and confirm the relevance of the approach
