The United Nations rule of law indicators : implementation guide and project tools( )

2 editions published in 2011 in English and held by 953 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Building and strengthening the 'rule of law' in developing nations, particularly countries in transition or emerging from a period of armed conflict, has become a central focus of the work of the United Nations. As a result, there is a growing demand throughout the United Nations system to better understand the delivery of justice in conflict and post-conflict situations and the impact of developments in this area. The United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), in cooperation with other United Nations departments, agencies, funds and programmes, have developed an instrument to monitor changes in the performance and fundamental characteristics of criminal justice institutions in conflict and post-conflict situations. The instrument consists of a set of indicators, the United Nations Rule of Law indicators. This guide describes how to implement this instrument and measure these indicators"--P. v

During that same time frame, the amount of marijuana seized grew almost seven-fold, from 7,314 kilograms to 49,918 kilograms. About 90% of the seizures occurred in British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec, although some displacement of grow operations to the Prairies and the Maritimes occurred

A survey and literature review that reveals best practices for working with sexually exploited youth by Talia Bell( )

2 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 38 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Providing services to support youth in exiting sexual exploitation requires multiple methods. Exploration of best practices through a literature review as well as interviews with service providers running programs specifically with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary identify strengths, promising practices, best practices, and considerations for improving programming. Many programs that work with sexually exploited youth exist in Canada, and this paper aims to synthesize key aspects of the programs including collaborative approaches to strengthen service delivery, resourcing, and best or promising practices. It was found that a need for collaborative approaches and a strengthened inventory of resources for service providers across the country would benefit the work of Calgary based programs. As well, an approach to service delivery that includes trauma informed care, holistic services, collaboration, and employing staff who have recovered from sexual exploitation could be among the best and or promising practices to working with sexually exploited youth

Assessing the safety of smart meter installations in British Columbia : analysis of residential structure fires in BC between July 2010 and June 2012 by Len Garis( Book )

1 edition published in 2012 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In June of 2011, BC Hydro commenced implementation of its Smart Metering Program, which involved converting every residential property in BC from legacy metering to wireless technology smart meters. This Smart Metering Program involves replacing existing electrical meters that are now becoming obsolete, with a comprehensive wireless smart metering system. ... A range of issues have been publicly discussed with respect to smart meters, the most recent of which has drawn links between these new apparatus and residential structure fires. As a result, two specific questions have emerged and underscore this report: 1. Has there been an increase in the frequency of residential structure fires in British Columbia, specifically caused by electricity and that may be associated with the deployment of smart meters? 2. Has there been an increase in the frequency of residential fires in the province in the presence of a marijuana grow operation?"--Page 1

Binge drinking among post-secondary students in British Columbia by Amanda V McCormick( Book )

1 edition published in 2007 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"There is little information available about binge drinking among Canadian students, and in particular, British Columbia post-secondary students. Given this, the BC Centre for Social Responsibility recently completed a study of alcohol consumption among post-secondary students in British Columbia. Over 400 students in two Lower Mainland post-secondary schools were surveyed on their alcohol consumption and binge drinking practices. A large proportion of students were found to both consume alcohol on a fairly regular basis, and to binge drink. Nearly three-quarters of students indicated that they had drunk five or more drinks in a single setting at some point in their lives; one-quarter of these students reported doing so several times over the last month. The results also indicated that nearly three-quarters of students had experienced at least one harmful consequence as a result of their consumption of alcohol."--Centre's website as viewed July 29, 2008: http://www.bccsr.ca/news/11
