Die junge Ercsi muss viele Enttäuschungen verarbeiten, die aber einen Emanzipationsprozess in Gang setzen und ihr schließlich einen Neubeginn ermöglichen. - Debütspielfilm der bedeutenden ungarischen Regisseurin Marta Meszaros. Marta Meszaros wurde 1931 in Budapest geboren, wuchs aber in der Sowjetunion auf. 1946 kehrte sie nach Ungarn zurück, bis sie ein Stipendium für die Moskauer Filmhochschule (WGIK) erhielt. Anschließend arbeitete sie als Regisseurin von Dokumentar- und Kurzfilmen in Budapest und Bukarest. Ihre bevorzugten Themen waren die Bildende Kunst und die Probleme junger Menschen. 1967 wurde Marta Meszaros Mitglied des "Studios IV" der staatlichen Produktionsfirma Mafilm, wo sie als erste Frau in der neueren ungarischen Filmproduktion die Chance erhielt, einen Spielfilm zu inszenieren. Heute zählt sie zu den bedeutendsten ungarischen Filmregisseurinnen. Man merkt dem Film "Das Mädchen" deutlich an, dass Marta Meszaros Erfahrungen im Dokumentarfilm gesammelt hat: Umwelt und Milieu werden sachlich und präzise geschildert; die Echtheit im Detail verleiht ihrem Film Überzeugungskraft
