Programming methods and tools by Paweł Lula( Book )

3 editions published between 2014 and 2016 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Since the inception of computers (or more broadly - calculating machines), their creators aimed to either solve or accelerate the processes whose "traditional" implementation would take a lot longer and require considerable resources. However, to make this possible, the thought that it could be done had to come first. This thought had to be turned into an idea - how to achieve this (an algorithm). The idea had to be presented in a form that could be converted into commands for a computer (the source code in a programming language) and then translated into a set of machine statements that a computer could execute (executable program). Unfortunately, this process - although summarised in the three sentences above - is not simple. Each stage requires special knowledge and skills. This textbook Programming Methods and Tools is a collective attempt to look at the process of developing computer programs. There are many publications available on the market describing algorithms, data structures and programming languages, but the intention of the authors is to present the entire issue in one textbook: from the history of algorithms, through their analysis, to object-oriented programming and programming of mobile devices. Such an approach to this problem was not easy. Among the wealth of issues related to creating algorithms, building and using data structures and writing programs, the authors had to select those the knowledge of which is essential to the understanding of the entire subject, at the same time allowing readers to gain knowledge that is sufficient for effective programming

A SWOT Analysis of Using Mobile Technology in Knowledge Providing in Organisations by Janusz Stal( )

1 edition published in 2019 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The development of various technologies affects the functioning of both individuals and organizations. Mobile technology plays an important role in the modern society. Mobile devices, as ones of the most important elements of this technology, are becoming increasingly ubiquitous and provide sophisticated functionality for both personal and professional use. This article has two main goals. Firstly, the article systematizes the "mobile device" term that, while commonly used, lacks a precise definition. The definition of this term depends on how people perceive it, and on the type of services it offers. The analysis of the previous studies allows to identify four factors that play a key role in defining the “mobile device” concept, namely: (1) portability, (2) pocket-size, (3) being handheld, and (4) wirelessness. It should be emphasized that these factors can also be crucial from the point of view of the use of mobile devices in the area of knowledge providing. Secondly, in the manuscript, the results of SWOT analysis that allowed to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to the use of mobile devices in knowledge providing in organisations are presented. To achieve the research goals, a comprehensive literature review was conducted. The research outcome might be useful both for practitioners who design mobile applications, and for researchers who develop conceptual models of knowledge management

The Acceptance of Mobile Technology in Knowledge Providing Model from the Perspective of User's Characteristics by Janusz Stal( )

1 edition published in 2019 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The study presents the results of an investigation into the acceptance of mobile technology usage for knowledge providing in different contexts: (1) educational/work environment, (2) mobile users' professional background (related and non-related to information and communication technology (ICT)), and (3) individuals' age. The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) was adjusted for the purpose of explaining and predicting mobile users' intentions. Then, the model was empirically examined using the structural equation modeling (SEM) with the dataset of 303 individuals. The results reveal differences in mobile technology usage acceptance in different subgroups of respondents. However, similar results of hypothesis testing were obtained for respondents without ICT background and older respondents. The research findings imply the necessity of adjusting the content distributed via mobile devices to recipients' age, their ICT skills, and context of usage, i.e. education versus work environment

Blended Learning Approach in INNOTRAIN-IT Project by Janusz Stal( )

1 edition published in 2015 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Development of information technology (IT) gives companies many new possibilities; however, it is also associated with a number of threats. The complexity of IT solutions exploited by the companies makes it difficult to choose and implement tools that are the most effective and efficient for an organization. Moreover, new standards and ideas arising in the IT field enable the companies to reorganize their business processes and work out innovative products and services. One of these ideas, gaining recently a growing popularity among business managers and IT practitioners, is named Information Technology Service Management (ITSM). There are numerous guidebooks on the adoption of ITSM-related solutions in companies published both by individual experts and institutions. Nonetheless, the vast majority of these publications is addressed to large companies. Also, the most recognized ITSM frameworks, such as ITIL, COBIT, and MOF, are designed first and foremost for large scale projects conducted in big organizations. Therefore, it appears that there is a lack of ITSM solutions dedicated to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The availability of such solutions would allow smaller companies to benefit from the effective use of IT accelerated by a conscious application of ITSM frameworks. The article presents the main ideas of INNOvation TRAINing IT Central Europe (INNOTRAIN IT) project whose main goal is to increase innovation level among SMEs by promoting the idea of ITSM and providing practical examples, advice, and useful solutions adapted to SMEs' needs and characteristics. The article starts with a basic introduction to ITSM ideas and the comparison of an ITSM method with the traditional approach to IT. Next, the most important facts about and tasks of INNOTRAIN IT project are presented. In order to increase the efficiency of application of the proposed solutions, a special training program was developed. The INNOTRAIN IT training concept, which is the main focus of this article, consists of both traditional and e-learning training sessions. The study concludes with the discussion of current and anticipated project results

Why M-Learning Might Appeal to Organisations? by Janusz Stal( )

1 edition published in 2017 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The vast majority of scientific publications connected with mobile learning relates primarily to its use in education. However, as some previous research suggest, it can bring benefits to organisations as well. The aim of this study is to develop a comprehensive model of m-learning determinants in organisation. In the course of the preliminary literature review of selected, recently published papers, we elicited advantages and disadvantages of m-learning utilisation in a business environment. Then we categorised them and identified five categories of benefits (Learning style, Technology, Communication, Knowledge, Organisation) and six categories of barriers (Organisation, Employees, Technology, Security, Content, and External). On the basis of the developed categorisation we elaborated the model of m-learning determinants in organisations. Then we formulated a number of implications for practitioners which allow them to improve performance and productivity and generate savings during m-learning implementation

Data Personalization in Mobile Environment The Content Adaptation Problem by Janusz Stal( )

1 edition published in 2015 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Dynamic development of mobile technologies results in a greater availability of Internet resources designed for mobile devices. Prior research suggest that existing mobile web sites have a number of disadvantages which may cause an incorrect display of their content on a mobile device. This study proposes a model of a solution dynamically adjusting existing mobile content to suit the needs of devices having limited capabilities. Simultaneously, in this solution resources designed for stationary equipment do not undergo the adjustment process. This allows us to realise a "One Web" idea where access to Internet resources should be possible regardless of the type of used device

Fostering Development of Soft Skills in ICT Curricula A Case of a Transition Economy by Janusz Stal( )

1 edition published in 2019 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

This paper contributes to the adjustment of teaching methods to a rapidly changing business environment and the technology evolution in Poland, a transition economy. It focuses on information and communication technology (ICT) students who, apart from professional knowledge and skills, need to acquire the ability to work in a business environment. In the course of the design-based research that involved a multiple case study, a blended learning framework was proposed. It aims at delivering ICT courses that support both development of domain knowledge and soft skills. Besides the skills recognized by previous research (communication, interpersonal skills, self-learning), the framework supports the development of the following soft skills that might be useful for future ICT professionals: active attendance, systematic work, self-assessment, and peer review. Since soft skills largely contribute to the success of an organization, the implementation of the framework should considerably improve the students' position in the labor market
