Masculinités : état des lieux( )

1 edition published in 2012 in French and held by 16 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

2 editions published in 2012 in French and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This thesis aims at seizing the relationships between the critiques and justifications regarding industrial food from a sociohistorical perspective, while paying special attention to the promotion of the “natural”. Today, a number of foodstuffs sales arguments outline qualities that can be considered as answers to critiques. The main objective of this dissertation is to show the production, the diffusion, the circulation and the process of endogenization or “digestion” of the critique by the food industry. The fieldwork focused on the contemporary food market through the construction of an advertising campaign and a corpus of food product sales arguments. Four corpuses of publications by key actors of the food system are then thoroughly studied: alternative dieticians, nutrition scientists, weekly general audience newspaper journalists and sociologists specialised in food. Between the late 1960s and the late 1970s the critique against industrial food spread. During the 1980s, it lost power and tended towards “domestication”. In the middle of the 1990s however, following a number of food crises, the critique regained considerable strength while, simultaneously, seeing its “domestication” broadened and institutionalized

2 editions published in 2012 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This thesis deals with the phenomenon of "school shootings". It accounts for the globalization of this phenomenon, observed since school shooters started using participatory media for communication strategies. This thesis analyzes this strategy of premediation and shows how their audiences appropriate it. This extreme form of school violence creates global disruptive media events. We show how ordinary citizens take part in this event by developing contemporary forms of sociation in digital social networks. We shall highlight one particular: the cocoon community. Among the ordinary audience of the media event, we see the emergence of counter-public, “school shooting” fans. The use participatory media to remind everyone that an underground revolt is underway. The remind us of this daily in broadcasting videos to the effigy of the killers on a digital subcultural stage hosted by YouTube. These fans, as well as their audiovisual and communication practices, are at the heart of this thesis, as their subculture is suspected of constituting a pool of future killers. The investigation of this subversive subcultural scene has led us to single out a phenomenon that is characteristic of the youth in search of points of reference beyond good and evil. The most extreme, those planning to act, appear to engage in what we call a process of posthumous anti-subject individuation. Even if they know the fatal outcome awaiting them, “a suicide by cop”, they thwart it with their media strategies. By the means of imitation, they guarantee the attribution of meaning to their acts and instrumentalize the media to take their revenge by achieving social fame and the status of an anti-hero

2 editions published in 2011 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This study focuses on the daily mobility of low-income populations, particularly those living in suburbs of the north and east of Libreville, far from remote services and places of employment. By using the tools of geographical transport, which sheds light on the social, spatial and environmental issues of transport, and mobilizing at the same time the concepts of social geography on the representations of space and ownership by the people, this work attempts to renew the knowledge on how poor people are moving. It put into perspective the importance often given to pedestrian mobility within Sub-Saharan cities. It emerges from this study that mobility of poor people rely more on the use of motorized transport especially, so called “suburban transports”, which are more available and less expensive for those users

2 editions published in 2011 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Local organizations have witnessed the changes in French rural areas for over a century. Long ignored, they are currently in demand in the implementation of government policy regarding rural development. Local organizations have been asked or asked to advance participative democracy from the first local contracts in the 70's to the LOADDT including the European LEADER program. They have been active in facilitating the setting up of common regional projects. This thesis deals with the relationship of local organizations with local communities and the way they are involved in development procedures. In the analysis of the setting up of local organizations we have adopted a socio-spatial approach to the network of organizations created. Government policy on rural development, by asking local organizations to participate, will interact to a greater or lesser degree with these organizations and cause them to redefine themselves. The political sphere chosen by the local elected officials will influence the socio-spatial configurations of the organizations and guide their involvement in the setting up of the regional project. Whether volunteered or requested, their involvement will vary according to the guidelines followed in the setting up of the regional plan by the local elected officials and project managers. This analytical model has been applied to Pays Quercy -Rouergue, a regional project which was never implemented , which led to the modifications in the LOADDT

2 editions published in 2011 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

2 editions published in 2011 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This thesis attends answering a question originated from the medical world, by framing it through a sociological perspective: why do some hypercholesterolaemic individuals not comply with their doctor's dietetic advice although being overexposed to cardiovascular risks? Three surveys were conducted: 1) some experts' interviews, so as to identify the controversies that have led hypercholesterolaemia to be considered as a major public health problem; some in-depth interviews and a focus group with “at risk eaters”, in order to grasp the main obstacles to the dietary compliance and the forms of social regulation for the pathology; and 3) a quantitative survey, carried out by questionnaires among 800 people and developed with the aim of collecting sociodemographic data on the population, and validating the qualitative results. Notwithstanding that the relations with food and health are partly over-determined by social and cultural variables, results underlined the need to situate individuals in their interactional and family environment. Neither eating choices nor the ways to cope with this chronic pathology are constructed within an individual perspective. Connecting the sociology of food with other works from the health, risk, family and gender domains eventually enabled revitalizing the compliance issue and initiating a vast field of researches on the effects of “eating together” and “living together”. This thesis therefore intends contributing to a sociology of eating choices

2 editions published in 2012 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In this first decade of the 21st century, the socio-cultural, economic and political turmoil in the post-crisis Ivory Coast society is affected by a series of transformations: economic and social, aesthetic and anthropologic, institutional and political. The assessment is clear: public cultural politicies in Ivory Coast and Africa in general are in a crisis. However, after 40 years of intervention and engagement by public authorities, private entities and non-governmental organizations, they have started to jointly work to serve African arts and culture. Despite these amenities still being in their infancy and with several deficiencies we can no longer neglect the importance, both in terms of economic and social impacts, of arts and culture in Ivory Coast

2 editions published in 2011 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

2 editions published in 2012 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

2 editions published in 2013 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The dynamics of gender relations have been built up by a global analysis since the settling of populations. This analysis allows us to cast a new glance on the gender relations with regard to social, cultural and economic problems in Upper Guinea. From the political and social organization of basic rural communities, it derives the social rank each social category maintains through various levels of scales (village, clan, family). The iniquities related to gender affect the economic and social processes. The gender relations are built up throng deeds and practices which not only show a social distinction but a hierachization for men and the elderly people, too the social organization codifies each other's practices in a gerontocratie system. The asymétrics of gender made of differences and iniquities sometimes change in response to the evolution of society as well as the changes in the socio- economic conditions. It is in this respect that many women of Upper Guinea have taker initiatives and are now taking part to the logical exploitation of “néré”, a crop used as a condiment which allows them to get more antinomy and can there fore have access to means of production. They are participating in collective organization further moving towards farther ends by disturbing the former hierarchy social distinction but a hierarchization for men and the elderly people, too the social organization codifies each other's practices in a gerontocratie system. The asymétrics of gender made of differences and iniquities sometimes change in response to the evolution of society as well as the changes in the socio- economic conditions. It is in this respect that many women of Upper Guinea have taker initiatives and are now taking part to the logical exploitation of “néré”, a crop used as a condiment which allows them to get more autonomy and can there fore have access to means of production.

2 editions published in 2016 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Through the examples of Lagrasse, Alet-les-Bains and Caunes-Minervois, this thesis intends to determine the mechanisms and the stakeholders' role in the development of monastic towns in the Aude department from the 8th century to the mid-16th century. The modes of settlement on these sites are examined, as well as the relations between the religious community and the inhabitants. The construction of urban space in these medium-sized medieval towns is one of the main topics addressed through the inventory of houses, the analysis of historic plans and of medieval or modern written sources. The peri-urban space is regarded as an area allowing both communities to secure a part of their supplies and, in this sense, as a space they had to share and that was essential to the relations between them
Écrire l'idée [Xie Yi] : entre l'écriture idéographique et l'écriture architecturale by Chén Bāo( )

2 editions published in 2012 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

2 editions published in 2011 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

My current doctoral research is about the mining societies in Northern and Central New Spain during the 18th century, and especially the region of Zacatecas, Fresnillo and Sombrerete. Within this particular context, I centred my study on the lower classes, a rather heterogeneous social group composed of castas, ladinos and poor Spaniards. This definition leads the reflection towards the analysis of the social stratification from a socio-economical perspective. However, the case of the poor Spaniards, their behaviour and the way they tend to reject the mestizos and other castas (as potential spouses for instance), stressing on their ties to the more powerful group of the Creoles in the process, indicates that the socio-racial component of the social stratification should not be ignored, at least as far as individual and collective mentalities are concerned. This point of view orientates a questioning about the formation of the colonial society and introduces the notion of the perception of one another as well. The confrontation between the colonial reality and the lower classes" perception can be a way of answering this interrogation. The result of this work is the depiction of an extremely complex and fluid society in which several levels of stratification (real / perceived) add up to produce a social mosaic

1 edition published in 2009 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

2 editions published in 2013 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The order of the Temple and that of the Hospital of St. Jean of Jerusalem were established in the French dioceses of Cahors, Rodez and Albi in the first half of the twelfth century. Their foundation resulted from a conscious policy to integrate into the local community and to develop close relationships with lay and religious elites in southern France, who were considerably receptive to the new form of spirituality promoted by military monasticism. The Templars and the Hospitalers thus founded a network of rural and urban commanderies. This network reveals a particular conceptualization of space within these three dioceses and evidences practices specific to these territories by the brothers of the military orders. As a reflection of their propositum vitae, the domus, the focal point of these religious communities' daily life, blends together different kinds of spaces and different functions, whose material objects were named borrowing terms both from religious architecture as well as castra. These buildings, which evolved throughout the twelfth and thirteenth centuries along with the regular communities they housed, participated in the construction of the identity of military monasticism

2 editions published in 2011 in French and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Traditionally, the historiography has seen the Africa Vetus, from the destruction of Carthage to the cesaro-augustans' interventions as a province without history, characterised by a chaotic and deserted image. However, the careful analysis of the documentation, chiefly archaeological, has permitted a completely different assessment. It so appears that the consequences of the last Punic war did not bring about the annihilation of all activity in the east of North Africa. The developments begun prior to the fall of Carthage carry on, more or less affected by the geopolitical disruptions of the middle of the second century. From that time, we observe a dynamic region, building or rebuilding, which goes through changes and upheavals, sometimes even setbacks, but always stays active. This life can be observed in different field, through the study of the population, its identity and apprehension, the occupation and administration of the territory, the distribution of the economical and commercial activities as well as the evolution of the religious and funerary landscape. A regional approach comes with this global vision, which reveals in the same area, different constructions for the four main regions : the Zeugitana, the Byzacena, the Tell and the Little Syrte. The development of each of them is determined by its pre-roman history, their action and their attitude during the first half of the second century and the third Punic war
